Dr. Henry Reese Ivey JR., MD

I wish there was an option for 0 stars. I had lab work done and some things were off, quite a bit off not a slight variance but about 3 times what they should be. I received no call about this, I only knew about this because I went on mychart to look and even after this he never brought it up again. Also went in for pain and was referred to ortho and even though he sent the wrong referral (was told this by several staff at orthopedics that his referral was wrong) he still wanted me to come back to him for an appointment again instead of correcting it. Yet another co pay and no care was given by him or his nurses. Not what you would expect out of a carilion doctor.

30 yrs. No complaints. Very satisfied and like Dr. Ivey.

I was a patient of Dr. Ivey's for more than 30 years. I went to school with his daughter and was one of her best friends. I thought that meant I would receive good treatment. During visits he acted like he wanted to be anywhere but there. The last few years I had been telling him my symptoms, not knowing if it meant anything or not...he was the doctor, right? I was told that I was fine...just getting older, and there was nothing wrong with me. In addition to my symptoms, my cholesterol was skyrocketing. He still seemed unconcerned. I asked for Lipitor and he wrote the prescription. After a few months, the muscle aches were unbearable and I had to discontinue taking it. When I had the next blood test, I had to wait 2 weeks...and several phone calls...to get my results, which was a letter stating that everything was fine except for my cholesterol and maybe I should consider Lipitor...?!?!? My gynecologist recommended another doctor and I was diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism...in fact… my thyroid was dead and had been dead for years. My new doctor said my symptoms were "textbook" but my body was so far out of whack because I had gone so long without being treated. He said within 5 years I would've either had kidney failure or a heart attack...I'm 41!!! I began medication immediately but the damage was already done. I ended up in the hospital with anemia and had strained the muscle around my heart. I'm not mad at Dr. Ivey...I'm just so sad and disappointed. I thought he cared about me and was certain that he had my best interest at heart since he knew me personally. He ignored my symptoms...which I brought up several times...and as a result, damaged my health. If he doesn't care enough to look after someone he has personally known for more than 30 years, then I don't think he will look after any of his patients. I was in denial for years when I heard other complaints about him, but no more...your best bet is to find another doctor

Many diagnoses on My Chart of conditions that I did not have. When evaluated by another physician, it was proven that I NEVER had many of these conditions and I was also being treated with medications which I did not need, e.g., 50 mg of HCTZ for high blood pressure. Depleted my electrolytes and caused my heart to go into bradycardia. Over a period of monitoring, it was established that I NEVER had high blood pressure. After bringing to his attention that his nursing assistant was archieving My Chart notifications meant for him as my PCP, refused to believe and dismissed me from practice and telling me that he was "so sorry that I was so unhappy". Office Manager stated that Dr. Ivey and his nursing assistant had a "very close working rapport'" and that she did not see how I could ever have a workable patient/physician relationship again -- all of this after serving as my PCP for 30+ years. If this should be your choice, you had better watch your back. You may be taking medications and… undergoing referrals and tests that you do not need. I believe that Medicare became aware of this as they tried repeatedly to get me to complete a CONFIDENTIAL survey regarding my treatment and satisfaction with the manner in which I was treated and many other questions regarding treatment, medications, etc., etc. I still have these surveys in my personal files. When Medicare did not get them back, they started calling me. At that point I felt that I should stand behind my PCP, but at the end, I now feel I should have filled out that survey and returned it to Medicare.

Every experience with this man as my physician has been completely horrible. Save yourself the trouble, go see someone else, Oh and Beirne and Spencer are just as awful, find another office if you care about your health!

If looking for a PCP who will support you and always be there for you, look further. This is not your choice. Besides, there are much younger physicians in the field with the most modern and up-to-date techniques. At the end, ask yourself if you just want a PCP on record only or do you want a physician who will put your health interests first -- DO NO HARM!!

Not worth the trouble -- they all stick together and cover each other's backs

At one time this practice was a really excellent facility with caring employees, but not now. It has gradually grown lower and lower on all reviewer's descriptions of their experiences in this clinic. Could do better at Bradley Free Clinic.

DR Ivey is the best ever.. I have been going to him since I was a young Adult. He has always taken the time to listen to me and help make the right decisions concerning my health..There will never be a team like him and his Assistance Julie..
