Dr. Herbert Milton Blair

I had an appointment when I was in my thirties. He told me a spot on my face was cancer and scooped a gouge in my cheek. I asked him what lab he used because I wanted a second opinion. He told me he did his own lab work. He said: "I am judge, jury and executioner." I felt this was a conflict of interest on his part and had the spot removed by a plastic surgeon who sent it to another lab. It was not cancer. Always get a second opinion and ask the physician if he does his own lab work or sends it to an independent one.

Good bedside manner

I went to Dr. Blair to have a mole that I thought was suspicious removed from my leg. He insisted that it was nothing, however, I insisted that I have it removed. He did remove it, and did the pathology work himself. He told me that it was benign. The mole came back, and six years later I went back to him to have him check it again. After removing it again, he told me that it was melanoma, and that he had made a mistake on his first pathology report, and that it had been melanoma six years ago. At this point, I left his care and went to the University of Michigan. I had surgery and found that it had spread to my lymph nodes. The doctors at the University of Michigan told me that had it been diagnosed properly the first time it would not have spread to my lymph nodes. I am a married, 36 year-old with an 8 year-old daughter. Because of Dr. Blair's mistake I worry every single day that I will not live to see my daughter grow up. His lack of knowledge may prove to be deadly to… me. I do not want someone else to experience what I have experienced.
