Dr. Herbert Lepor, MD

We chose Dr. Lepore, Chief of Urology at NYU Hospital, after carefully reading the bios and publications of the entire group of urologists at NYU hospital, noting that he was one of the most knowledgeable and experienced in the field. Dr. Lepore’s group pioneered a new imaging technique for prostate cancer, guided MRI, that allows them to biopsy specific areas. He also uses cryogenic ablation, a freezing technique, which, if done in early stages of the disease, gets rid of the cancer while avoiding surgery to remove the prostate. These techniques are state of the art treatments and help patients to get the best outcomes possible. No matter what treatment one has, he does extensive follow up after the surgery to make sure things are stable and the cancer is gone, or being controlled properly. I made an appointment to see Dr. Lepore after my primary physician told me that I had a high PSA result. Which can be an indication of prostate cancer. The appointment was between Thanksgiving… and Christmas, with the results of the different tests I took coming back just before the Xmas holidays. Dr. Lepore kept in touch with me through the holidays, as well as clearly explained my options. Two years ago, I received a cryogenic ablation, less invasive process in which the cancer cells are frozen. Recently, I had a follow-up MRI, CAT scan, PSA test, and a biopsy, where Dr. Lepore tested nearly two-dozen sites. His thoroughness was impressive and – more importantly – reassuring. Once he makes his diagnosis, he is clear about the options you have. Dr. Lepore is careful, attentive, and thorough. He has a trace of a Southern accent and a wonderful, direct, and compassionate manner. With an M.D. from Johns Hopkins University and many years of experience at the forefront of the field, I strongly recommend Dr. Lepore.

Its been 5 years and i am very grateful to have had Dr. Lepor do my surgery. He was caring,considerate and very very professional. It was an emotional and tough time 5 years ago. He got me thru it and I've had very little changes in my lifestyle. I can't say enough good things about him.
