Dr. Herbert I Stein, MD

Dr. Stein I believe has now retired. I’m 60 now but he was my doctor for decades and my parents doctor since the 1970’s in til their deaths at age 80 & 97. He knew his patients and was an excellent diagnostician and care giver. He had the utmost respect of his peers for him and his skill. When I lived in SF, my mother was visiting and suffered strong heart palpitations req an emergency room visit. The cardiologist on call in ER who didn’t even know us said to my dad, mom and I after looking at my moms meds, “you’re being well cared for by your Doctor who really knows his stuff, this is cutting edge medicine, your Doctor must really love you, it’s what I’d do for my own mom”. I miss Dr. Stein

Dr. Stein used to be good. As he has aged, he has gotten progressively less interested in medicine and his patients and more interested in his leisure activities, like golf. He no longer spends much time with patients, overlooks warning signs, can't be bothered to communicate basics such as even your blood pressure, and is very hurried. I had a serious condition for four years that he ignored. It was only now, thanks to the intervention of my psychiatrist, that I even discovered this condition. I discovered that I need urgent surgery, but rather than admitting any responsibility for overlooking this condition for four years, he terminated me as a patient. My advice: Play golf with him. Don't use him as your cardiologist. You might not be around to have him terminate you as a patient.

I have been using Dr. Stein since 1971 and he has never let me down in any way.
