My favorite doctor! Is a good Dr. I'm happy with his attention!

For those of you struggling with a mental illness hoping to receive help with advancing in life and becoming of sounder mind via compassionate and thorough professional assistance, I would seek help elsewhere. I'm not usually one to give a bad review, but this was my first experience with a psychiatrist and Vandenburg was my only lifeline and I've been in distress all the time I've been under his care. My initial interview with him was very brief/blunt and a diagnosis was thrown out that he ran with and I felt like his guinea pig with all the medications he cycled me through, usually several at once. This made it impossible to tell which medications were actually helpful and which were causing all of the side effects (which he brushed off and laughed at me when I complained about sudden thyroid decline *I'm 29* and kidney problems, as well as an additional 50 pounds I didn't sign up for). I literally had to beg for months and do my own research and persuade him to change my… medications to ones with less side effects. I assume this is due to pharma commissions. It's impossible to get in touch with him if you have concerns between appointments. And appointments aren't really appointments. The clinic operates like a walk-in clinic so it's difficult to get in if you have a job.

When I was 16, I visited Dr. Vandenberg for severe chronic depression. I was very much in crisis. He came into our meeting and told me that I looked terrible, that my clothes were disheveled, and asked, "How old are you? 16? You look 26." He told me to get my act together. He laughed at me. I didn't know at the time that I didn't deserve that kind of treatment. It really hurt my self esteem and confirmed my own negative self talk. Please, please do not send your children here.

Dr. Vandenburg is great. He is helpful and cares. I have Dementia and I am so much better.

Awesome with my son and grands. Never too busy to to listen to the child even though he is not their therapist.

He is a terrible Dr. He will schedule you for an app. and when you get there you see a note on the door that he is out of the country for a month. Without letting any of his patients having prior knowledge. Then lets his patients that are taking medicine run out because of his carelessness. Absolutely the worst Dr. I've ever been a patient of.

Very knowledgeable always treated me well never looked down on me because he has a degree. Listened and treated accordingly. Very helpful in other areas when i have questions. is super nice to me. More than i could have ever asked for when i moved from VA to LA

We trusted him and my son suffered for many years. At that time we didn't understand about mental illnesses. Finally after many years of being with this doctor, we found out by another specialist that his diagnose was inaccurate. Be very careful.

Great visit. He spent a lot of time with us. He gave good advice and prescribed appropriate medications.

He prescribes the same medication to every patient. Be your own advocate because he is just another drug rep with a md.
