Dr. Liem enjoys all facets of General, Cosmetic, and Orthodontic Dentistry. He decided a few years ago that he needed another challenge, he did some research and took several courses in facial beauty. Dr. Liem became certified in administering Restylane® derma-filler. Now, not only can he give you a beautiful smile, but he can artfully diminish those deep creases and lines around your mouth. “With my highly trained and skilled team we can produce superior quality dentistry and facial beauty,” said Dr. Liem.
Dr. Liem is a Gold Beach dentist that grew up in Indonesia where he attended private elementary and high schools. At sixteen years of age he graduated from high school and was accepted into the Institute Technology of Surabaya with a major in Electronic Engineering. However, after three years of study he realized this was not what he wanted to do so he moved to the United States. He enrolled at Pacific Union College in Angwin, …California and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. After passing the National and California State Board examinations, he worked as a med-tech for four years in various hospital and reference laboratories. But as much as he loved what he was doing he made another big decision. He really wanted to study dentistry. In 1984 Dr. Herman Liem graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Liem’s philosophy is simple: first and foremost there is to be no pain. The second is that he will only use the best material and the best technique to achieve the best results for your oral health. “I want to make sure that the dental work that I provide will last and provide the best results possible.” He attends several continuing education classes every year, and is involved in a study club with other dentists from around Oregon to increase his knowledge of the best techniques and materials. He is very interested in research so he has also been a participant in several studies with N.W. Precedent. The research can range from cancer/saliva flow, third molar studies, or pulp cap studies (medicine placed in the tooth under a restoration to preserve the nerve inside). All these studies help him and other dentists to understand how best to treat certain dental conditions.
Dr. Liem is happily married with three adult children. He is an active member of his local church, and with his background in electronics, he started a Christian radio station. He enjoys being the General Manager and planning the format for different segments of the shows. He loves to cook, listen to music, gardening, and travel with his family. Dr. Liem has been in private family dental practice since he graduated. He started practicing in California but soon found the hustle and bustle too much. He decided to move his family to Oregon and settled here in beautiful Gold Beach.
Dr. Liem, his family, and staff are very interested in mission trips, helping people by building churches and community centers, giving lectures at the local medical/dental meetings, and providing quality dentistry for all patients. “God has blessed my family and I, so in return we want to give back to the local community and overseas. However, I also realize that there is only so much anyone can do with the limited time and resources that we have” said Dr. Liem. The most recent mission trips involved countries such as Kenya, Africa, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Taiwan, Mexico, and the Philippines.
