I just wish that my cancer condition was diagnosed properly. After almost 2 yrs of constantly bringing up an issue with my nipple where it just WOULD NOT heal properly (initially presumed to be cracked nipples from nursing ), I was finally given a referral to see a dermatologist. Right away the dermatologist had asked if anyone in my family had ever had breast or ovarian cancer, he took a biopsy of my nipple, and the results had come back positive for cancer. My tumor mass was 7.5 cm which is very large and (I'm told) would've been very easily detected during my breast exam with a trained physician. To think that for almost 2 years I had constantly brought up this issue with my nipple not healing and being told that "these things can take a while to heal" saddens me. I had been seeking help for almost 2 years and if only I had gotten a referral to a specialist sooner I would not have had to do a mastectomy and undergo any other cancer treatment. I feel very much let down, and now my… health is my burden of extreme worry. I wish so much that my cancer detection could've happened a lot sooner than almost 2 years AFTER I had initially brought up my concerns. I am a South Sound Clinic patient of Dr. Arnold's and although I've always thought she was a very polite and kind doctor, but I cannot help but feel that my condition was severely neglected.
