Dr. Hiram S. Cody IIi, MD

Dr. Cody could not be more well-informed, pragmatic and solid. When I needed breast cancer surgery, he was first in mind to engage as he had followed me before for high risk and gently let me know the hospital that did the needle biopsy had not sent an important study. I had 2 friends who saw him. The first non-physician did not like Dr. Cody's assessment and went to the doc at another well-regarded NY institution who gave her a version of treatment she liked better. Dr. Cody was correct about size of tumor, etc. and it did not go well for her. My other friend is (also a physician like me) so grateful for the referral and raves about his level of expertise and pragmatic thinking. This is a doctors' doctor. He will give the best evidence based advice compassionately but if you need to be coddled, he may not be the one for you. If best practices are what you want then he is tops.

Dr Cody treated me with compassion and respect during my appointments with him for invasive breast cancer. He explained the procedures that he was recommending (completely different from the first surgeon that I had consulted). He exudes confidence in his decisions. I was very comfortable with him. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

I started with Dr. Cody when he was with Dr. Urban. He is above & beyond a surgeon. He is a compassionate, gentle and decent human being. The best.

I have been seeing Dr Cody since he started as an assistant to Dr Urban. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer many years later he was there. He is smart, compassionate, the best surgeon going, and takes the time to sit down and answer all questions. As a busy surgeon at MSK, if you can get an appointment with him you. are lucky. Obviously, Dr. Cody has decades of experience and has seen it all. However, his approach and treatment felt mechanical. From his perspective, mine is b flat cancer. From my point of view, it is life-changing.

Dr. Cody is one of the most compassionate doctors I have ever met. He explained the options and allowed me to choose the treatment plan I felt most comfortable with. I have complete confidence in his abilities as a surgeon and physician. It may take a while to get that first appointment and you may need to wait on busy days but that is because he gives us each the time that we need to deal with a scary diagnosis.
