Dr. Hiroko Kunitake, MD

Hiroko Kunitake performed a colonoscopy on me in 2017 following a cancer diagnosis and treatment. During the procedure, I woke up in excruciating pain. She knew I was awake but continued with the probe, pushing her way through to complete the procedure. I was put back asleep, only to wake again to the same horrible pain. AGAIN, she continued on with the probe which felt as if my insides were being torn apart. When I woke up in recovery, the doctor was gone. Did not follow up or come in to check on me. When my next exam was to be scheduled, I told my cancer surgeon that I did NOT want to go back to Hirolo Kunitake. I was told that there have been other complaints and moved to another doctor. HORRIBLE experience. Cancer treatment was far less invasive!

I saw Dr. Kunitake for a Colo rectal problem and she performed surgery on me. She is extremely personable, likable and knowledgeable. The procedure was somewhat successful but I had a lot of internal bleeding that required several units of blood simply because the drain was removed prematurely. This needless error resulted in two trips to the intensive care unit, several transfusions and "roller coaster" like blood pressure problems. Her resident was rushed and cavalier about my situation and Dr. Kunitake never came back to see me. That was very concerning for me and not very professional in my opinion. I do not think I would go back to her.

I met with Dr Kunitake for my ongoing diverticulitis. She was so kind and both her and her medical student were very explanatory and even drew pictures to show me what surgery would require. Meeting with a GI doc based on her recommendation but if I need surgery I know I can return to her with 100% confidence and comfortability!

Dr. Kunitake is a very nice person and a gifted surgeon. I went to her with a colo-rectal problem which she quickly diagnosed and surgically repaired. She is exceptionally accessible to speak to both pre and post-op. She is terribly pleasant. I believe she is fairly new at MGH but I can't recommend her high enough.
