Dr. Hisham Afa Alrefai, MD

He is a very kind man, and I have trusted his judgement in my conditions. However, I can no longer deal with his staff. I've tried to remake a missed appointment and get my refills done, only to be told I could have neither until I paid a missed appointment fee. If that is all I mean to this group, then they won't miss me when I'm gone.

Dr. Alrefai is very friendly but trying to get his staff to respond to a medical supply company so I could reorder supplies is the worst ever. After several discussions with the doctor, he admitted he has a problem but after 1 year the issue has not changed. Looking for another endocrinologist.

I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. A. He’s not only an excellent endocrinologist but he genuinely cares about you as a person. Your health and well-being is very important to him and so is getting you to the quality of life that makes your life worth living! I appreciate him so much! ALL doctors should take a lesson in caring and compassionate healthcare from him.

This office shows little regard for patients. Phone calls are never returned. At first, I thought Dr. Alrefai was a truly caring doctor but I know now it was a facade. He knew his office made a mistake with regarding lab work sent out of network. He tried to put the blame on the lab. Well, mY insurance company wouldn’t pay and after research confirmed that Dr. A wrote the order for the outpt facility. He lied straight to my face and expects me to pay for his mistake.

While Dr. Alrefai is a very patient and thorough doctor, forget trying to book an appointment or talk with someone on the phone in his office. The phone goes directly to voice mail and even after leaving a phone message, they do not return your phone call. After multiple attempts over a 2 week span and leaving several messages, someone finally answered the phone. After reporting that I had left several messages, there was no apology or explanation, I was cut off and asked if I wanted to make an appointment. Very unprofessional with no regard for courtesy, care, nor respect for patients.

I've been seeing "Dr. A" since he was with Norton. I've become increasingly dissatisfied since he started his own practice. (He bought Dr. Wood's practice when Dr. Wood passed away.) Dr. A has been great but his staff has always been lacking. He even commented to me about it on a visit - says that so much productivity was lost because they were all on their phones all the time. I've seen some staff come and some go, but it hasn't gotten better. HAve the time you call the office during business hours you get the "the office is closed" recording. I've been leaving messages about a prior authorization needed for a prescriptions for at least two weeks with no return calls. The office is also very lacking in technology. Everything is still paper. Prescriptions aren't done electronically, but by fax. For the last year or so I was seeing the nurse practitioner and felt that I was getting more and better attention than from Dr. A himself. Now that nurse practitioner is gone, and her… replacement isn't very good. Every time I see Dr. A directly anymore he's pushing whatever insulin pump is the flavor of the month, despite the issues I have with the pumps. (Cost, skin sensitive to the adhesives, etc.) He has a rep onsite with the pump company (Omnipod right now) which is a big red flag for me. He's gone from being a great doctor to being a shill for Omnipod. I've been searching for the nurse practitioner he used to have and I think I have found here at another practice in town. I plan on taking my business to them.

I’ve never gotten anything but excellent care and service by both Dr A, and his staff. If you need a doctor that truly cares, and goes the extra mile when you really need it, you need him. Debbie and all of his staff treat you like family, and show they truly care. I wouldn’t trade them for anything

Dr. Alrefai has been one of the best doctors I've seen. He shows enthusiasm and care for his patients. He's very thorough and listens closely to concerns, working to accommodate your needs.
