Dr. Hisham Barakat graduated dental school in 1998. He then completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (AEGD) at Louisiana State University.
Also, he Completed a two year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center LSUHSC.
 He joined a large group practice in Virginia Beach from 2003- 2010 during which he served as a Board Member and a Core Doctor for the Company.
Dr.Barakat is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI). The ABOI/ID Diplomate designation symbolizes the highest level of competence in implant dentistry. Certification by the ABOI/ID attests to the fact that a dentist has demonstrated knowledge, ability, and proficiency in implant dentistry through a rigorous examination process
He  has been awarded Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD). In order to achieve this, he was required to attend over 1100 hours of …continuing education in all phases of Dentistry, 400 of which involved participation courses and case presentations.
Dr. Barakat is a Credentialed  Member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), has been awarded Associate Fellow (AF) Status. Dentists receiving this award have been certified by their peers and have met national standards of education and practice in oral implantology.
He is also a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology  (ICOI) which is the highest credential offered by this worldwide known organization for dentists who have shown excellence in Dental Implantology.
Dr. Barakat serves as a Part-Time Faculty Member at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry.
Currently he serves as the Continuing Education Chair for the Academy of General Dentistry Virginia Chapter.
In 1996, Dr. Barakat completed the Medical College of Georgia/ AAID MAXI-COURSE in Implant Dentistry, the Maxi-Course is  among the most respected and comprehensive training programs in implant dentistry. Offered in university settings throughout the U.S. and internationally, the course presenters include renowned university faculty, world-class clinicians and the country's top authorities in implant dentistry.
"MaxiCourses® provide 300 or more hours of lecture, laboratory sessions, live surgical demonstrations and home/office assignments. It normally is presented in 10 parts, once a month, over a 10-month period.  Dentists who graduate from an approved MaxiCourse®  meet the minimum educational requirements for Associate Fellowship in the AAID".
