Holly Heuer

My experience with Holly Heuer at LifeStance was devastating and has permanently changed the way I view mental health counseling. I entered therapy during one of the most vulnerable periods of my life, believing I would receive unbiased, ethical, and trauma-informed care. Instead, I left feeling unheard, dismissed, and significantly more traumatized than when I arrived. In my experience, my concerns, documentation, and attempts to explain my perspective were not given meaningful consideration. I felt that decisions affecting my family were discussed without the level of neutrality and thoroughness I expected from a mental health professional involved in a high-conflict family situation. The consequences for me were severe. Rather than helping me heal, my mental health continued to deteriorate. I ultimately required crisis intervention and now undergo nasal spray treatments twice a week because my depression and trauma became so overwhelming. Therapists hold tremendous influence over… vulnerable people and families. Because of that, I believe they have an obligation to listen carefully, remain impartial, thoroughly review information presented by all parties, and avoid contributing to further psychological harm. My experience did not meet those expectations. I have chosen to pursue formal avenues regarding my concerns rather than simply moving on, because I believe accountability matters when patients feel they have been harmed. My hope is that LifeStance carefully reviews patient concerns so others do not experience what I did. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions.
