Dr. Hooman Khorasani, MD

TLDR: HORRIBLE results and caused excruciating contact dermatitis on an UNTREATED area! Treated me with an ablative laser for a birthmark. During the second treatment, he applied a large adhesive band-aid across a sensitive area WITHOUT prior discussion. When removed minutes later, it caused excruciating burning pain (diagnosed as contact dermatitis) that lasted two months. I still have redness there over a year later. The treated site became a dark red circular scar — LARGER than the original birthmark — resembling a cigarette burn with a skin depression. I have since been treated by a plastic surgeon and a laser specialist to try to fix the damage. Full Review: I sought Dr. Hooman Khorasani’s help for removing a birthmark on my cheek, choosing him for his advertised expertise in both excision and laser. I was dazzled by the photos of patient results on his website. At my consultation, he advised PreciseFX laser (ablative CO2) over excision, claiming it would produce a smaller… scar. The first treatment was fine but didn't eliminate the birthmark. He offered a "touch up" second treatment at no charge. That is where things went wrong. After administering a numbing injection (15 minutes prior to the laser treatment), he applied a large band-aid with strong adhesive to my cheek without consulting me. There was only a drop or two of blood, making the band-aid feel completely unnecessary. Upon removal, it caused immediate irritation to my sensitive skin. Had the doctor paused to discuss the step beforehand, I would have been able to disclose my skin sensitivity and request a different approach. The severe reaction that followed could have been easily avoided. I believe the band-aid was used merely to cover the site while moving me between treatment rooms — out of the doctor's concern about how I would look to other patients if they saw me — rather than for medical necessity (it was not applied during my first treatment, when I did not have to switch rooms). The resulting CONTACT DERMATITIS was excruciating, lasting TWO MONTHS. It was so painful I had to alter my work schedule. I called the office within days of the treatment to report the unrelenting pain and seek guidance. When Dr. Khorasani returned the call, he sounded bothered and talked down to me, repeating himself in a frustrated tone when I asked for clarification. Speaking to a patient in this manner — especially one who was suffering from a procedure-related complication — was entirely inappropriate and fell short of professional standards of medical conduct. Six weeks later, the treated birthmark site was a depression surrounded by a dark red/purple blotch. It was larger than the original mark and looked like a cigarette burn. At my six-week follow-up appointment, Dr. Khorasani advised waiting several months to see if the redness would subside, noting his earlier claim that in 90% of patients, redness goes away by the nine-month mark. He suggested an excision later if I was unhappy — the very procedure I originally expected. I would never let him touch my face again, nor pay his exorbitant fees. RESULTS AT ONE YEAR: I waited a full year to see if the redness in the laser scar would subside — but it did not. Given my complexion, this outcome felt predictable. I still have lingering redness at the site of the dermatitis as well, which I did not have prior to this treatment. I have since consulted two separate specialists to repair the damage. This has cost me a lot more money and a FULL YEAR of time. I had to restart the process from the beginning with an excision from another doctor. I spent that year self-conscious, avoiding social and professional situations, and keeping the scar covered. I'll never get that time back. Note on fees: His fees are significantly higher than other top NYC doctors for identical services. I would absolutely NEVER recommend Dr. Hooman Khorasani!

To whoever is considering Dr. Khorasani, please be careful of his questionable practices and morals. I’ve debated writing this for a long time, and have ultimately decided to share my story so this does not happen to anyone else. Due to his negligence, I am facing major surgery and increased risk of cancer. The first time I met Dr. Khorasani was when I was fifteen in 2016, when I was brought to his clinic by a caregiver. At that time, I had a lump near my ear that was already diagnosed as a tumor through a fine needle biopsy. The tumor was called a Pleomorphic Adenoma, a benign type of salivary gland tumor that requires precise surgical removal due to its risk of malignant transformation and location. Prior to seeing Dr. Khorasani, I was scheduled to see an ENT to have a proper and safe resection. However, my caregiver at the time was a client of Dr. Khorasani and favoured his office instead. I do not understand why Dr. Khorasani agreed to remove my tumor that day. It was out of his… medical field, and clearly a request by a negligent caregiver that he could have simply turned down. I can only assume the private practice money was too tempting to decline. Minutes after meeting him for the first time, I was given a sedative. Then, on the same chair I first sat down on in his consultation office, he returned to remove my tumor with minimal anesthetics. It was extremely painful and traumatizing, and I can only describe the procedure as essentially a feeling my tumor was simply being ripped out. It was over in under ten minutes, through which I remember crying due to fear and pain, after which I was sent home with a gauze and a few painkillers. That was the first and last time I met Dr. Khorasani. I am now twenty-two, and the tumor, unsurprisingly, has returned in multiple growths. Improper removal is one of the leading causes of the reoccurrence of these types of tumors. I now have to get a parotidectomy with an ENT (a complete removal of my left parotid gland). My chances of the tumors coming back as malignant are much higher (if not properly removed, the tumor tends to come back aggressively with malignancy rates tripling after just a single reoccurrence). The ENT's who have treated me since have been shocked at my story. All it took for Dr. Khorasani was to decline a procedure clearly out of his depth. As a minor I had no choice in the matter, and this was completely out of his medical sphere. I had scans by then showing it was a parotid tumor, not a dermatological one. His decision was grossly negligent, traumatizing, and painful. Moreover, I am now facing an invasive surgery and possible malignancy in part, due to his negligence. My life is currently upturned and uncertain. If he agreed to do something so negligent to a child, I wonder what kind of ethics he practices at his clinic with other procedures, aesthetic or not. If you are considering Dr. Khorasani, please be careful of his decisions with your health. In my case, he clearly did not care about my well-being, nor the long-term implications of his actions.

Dr. Khorasani's surgery was painless, thorough and has healed in the best way possible. I couldn't be happier.

Dr. Khorasani is very nice and listens to you. He thinks outside the box and does not give up. If you go to his private practice his wife is his manager and she is a gem. She is very caring, down to earth and accomodating. I am glad that I found this office.

My sister found Dr Khorasani through extensive research for the best surgeon to perform MOHS surgery on my cheek. I am very pleased with the outcome of the surgery, Dr. Khorasani’s expertise and his professionalism. I appreciate his welcoming and efficient staff, especially Cindy who was always available by email & phone to forward my additional questions to Dr. Khorasani for his quick responses. I highly recommend Dr. Khorasani.
