Dr. Horacio Aurelio Capote, MD

I saw Dr. Capote for simple medication management and he was so attentive at my appointment. He was fully engaged with what I was saying, asked questions, validated my experiences. As someone who has seen many, many PCPs, psychiatrists, NPs, etc for mental health issues for 20 years, he has been the most helpful doctor I have seen. I felt heard, respected and listened to. It was a rarity before seeing Dr. Capote that a new doctor wouldn't want to change my meds or invalidate a previous diagnosis or add another one. He didn't do that to me and for that I'm so thankful. He listened to my concerns and did the right thing: ordered a lot of testing, blood work, MRI's, etc. He is so informed and knowledgeable and I trust him and the PA's who work under him. I've never had to wait longer than a few minutes and I would say to folks complaining about that: he is running late because he is taking time with his patients, a very important part of his role. No, his practice is not drive thru… psychiatry and folks should be thankful for that. I know I'm thankful for being set up at DENT and have a deep trust in the folks that work there. I know that if there is something wrong with my health, they will investigate and figure it out as they are doing for me right now.

This is the worst Psychiatrist in Buffalo! I saw him for years and he put me on 4mg of Klonapin for mild anxiety and was not informed about the withdrawal effects of the drug. I am now being tapered off all of it after 18 years and it is pure hell. I have a time limit of 7 mo to come off all of it. If it wasn't for Dr. Capote's incompetence I would not be going thru this hellish experience. I thought he was my friend. I trusted him very much and was betrayed. He lied to my lawyers. ECMC said that he is not my friend. Do not continue with this Dr. Look for another Dr ASAP. He is not to be trusted.

I’ve been a patient at dent for almost 10 years now for various different reason. When referred to him I was initially excited to receive proper treatment. I waited 3 hours to see him for a 10 minute appointment. He sat on his computer the entire time and didn’t pay attention to one word I said. He said “what would you say if I told you you were bipolar?” And prescribed me a medication. After other review this was the complete wrong diagnosis and I was improperly treated and medicated for 3 years because of it. He needs to be removed from the practice.

Misdiagnosed my husband, wanted to treat him with dementia drugs and over drugged him for conditions he never had. Once he saw another Dr. he was gradually taken off the "hard" drugs and diagnosed correctly and treated with fewer medicines. He did not have dementia.

Negative 100 stars would be better. This man stole my life and all that encompasses within 4 months. My sanity, my family, my job, my housing, my friends and most Of all my faith in doctors. I was ignored as he knowingly watched me deplete to nothing but a scared and desperate individual. He took me off of meds I’d been on for 16 and 18 years in 2 weeks (each) with no replacement. I was frequently at the psych ward, who wouldn’t admit me because it was too traumatic for someone like me - who really didn’t belong there. I even took myself to NYC and dropped myself inside the emergency room at NY Presbyterian and begged them to help me and stayed in their psychiatric unit for MY BIRTHDAY. When I returned he saw me after several unreturned calls. If I ever needed anything I had to get in the car and drive to his office and beg to be seen and explain Why in front of the entire wait room of people. He is the only psychiatrist at Dent and everyone else is a PA and one more insulting than… the next. I left in tears and hopeless after every single appointment going in hopeful and not crying. Every time. Throughout this entire 4 months I only saw Capote at intake and then after the hospital visit in NYC where he called me “treatment resistant” and said I had to start doing electro convulsive therapy. I said “I’m not treatment resistant you’re resisting treating the problem”. I have strong anxiety, a tiny bit of depression that kicks up during the winter and off the charts ADD with some PTSD. He had me on NO meds for any of that. I was talking myself to the ER so often (daily) asking for help and being told to go home and go see my doctor (who wouldn't see me - Capote) that I finally after the last trip to ECMC where the on call psychiatrist said “you come here everyday begging for help, why don’t you just see your doctor” and I told him it’s because he won’t see me and there’s no way to call his office. SO, that doctor picked up the phone and called Capote himself and said I needed to be seen and the NEXT DAY I WAS DROPPED AS A PATIENT! Most relieving call of my life. I went back to my primary and he put me back on a very low dose of my old meds and I’m now back with my family, back at work, moved into a great place, haven’t had one upset day and finally have my life back. All turned around in 2 days. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN. ALSO, LOOK AT HOW MANY OPEN CASES HE HAS FOR NEGLIGENCE AND HOW MANY HES CURRENTLY SERVING. - When I say he stole my life - he did. I have it back now and it took 2 days of the right meds, which he claimed I was allergic to (that I took for almost 2 decades....). I’m now in the process of getting my thriving and beloved career back in track and enjoying having my life back.

I was a patient in this office for years because I have poor insurance and not a lot of places take it. Switching is a hassle so I stayed. He was a TERRIBLE dr!! You see him for 1 appointment which he will stare at his screen the whole time, basically ignore you, look annoyed if you do talk, have about a 3 minute conversation with you and then go back to the computer and prescribe you medication, possibly order some ridiculous tests and then send you on your way, then you will see a PA from then on. HOW do they even know what medication to give you when they barely even talk to you?!?!

I was a patient of Dr. Capotes and he was a horrible doctor. He needs to leave this practice so patients can see someone with knowledge who can help them. Sorry Dr. Capote..this is the truth and I think you know it is.

To see this doctor, for the first month you must visit once per week at an initial $300 and then $130 every week thereafter. He only accepts cash as well. I have never heard of such a marauder.

I saw Capote in the fall of 2016 after waiting an hour and a half past my appointment time. Then I saw a nurse who conducted some brief testing with words and pictures. Then sent back to wait for another 45 minutes. Then I saw the Dr. For 10 minutes he stared at his computer, did not make any eye contact, never asked questions . Just ordered tests including about 13 blood tests, a sleep study, prescribed Latuda, which if he indeed read my paperwork, had a contraindication with the statin I was on. My insurance wouldn't even cover it and if they had, it would have been $180 per month co pay. He insisted this was best after I called back and then found out all follow ups were with a PA not a Dr in the practice. He also bashed my neurologist I was seeing at the Dent for a head injury and car accident. I left both of them to find better doctors with second opinions and they both booted me out of the Dent for life. Just as well. I don't believe this place is suitable for a veterinary clinic

Yes,Dr Capote was a good Dr for my needs .not only did he save my life,but he also sent me in the right direction with my addictive behavior.unfortunately I was discharged from his care . If I didn't lose my transportation I would still be in the care of the best Dr I have had the pleasure to have met. I highly recommend him and wish I could go back!!!!
