Dr. Howard Lawrence Berkowitz, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Berkowitz for 12 years. Durng that time, I have found him to be a terrific doctor. Not only did he help me but he very strongly advised me to come in if the medicine was not working. He said that I could be helped and should not suffer needlessly. My life is much better now that my dysthymia is successfully treated. He always calls back quickly and takes care of whatever I need quickly

I would call Dr. Berkowtz's bedside manner somewhat arrogant, sarcastic and condescending. Not what you would hope from a mental health professional.

I am 64 years old and have seen perhaps 5 psychiatrists at various times in my life, in Manhattan and Los Angeles. I suffer from standard depression and anxiety. Never in my life have I experienced a medical doctor as disturbed as Dr. Berkowitz. He is deeply passive aggressive, meaning he has a very calm way of sitting and talking, but what comes out of his mouth is one nasty comment after another. He is really angry about something and he takes it out on his patients. Psychiatrists are supposed to make you feel safe. They're not supposed to be cruel. This guy is creepy and despicable.
