Dr. Howard D Dorfman, MD

Dr. Dorfman is a quintessential New Yorker, having spent the bulk of his professional life and his formative years in New York City. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, received his bachelors degree from New York University and his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. His residency and fellowship training in Pathology were completed at Mount Sinai Hospital and Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, respectively. At the latter institution, he came under the influence of Raffaele Lattes, MD, and Arthur Purdy Stout,MD, both of whom were responsible for guiding him into a career in surgical pathology. After a five year sojourn in Baltimore, honing his skills in surgical pathologic diagnosis, he was invited back to his home town, where he succeeded Henry Jaffe, MD as the Director of the Department of Pathology at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan. It was there that he developed his abiding interest in bone and …joint pathology, through daily contact with the now-retired Dr. Jaffe, whom he regards as his true mentor.
