The bad experience with Howard Eggers was so similar to another patient that I had to express my concerns. Dr. Eggers sold me a surgery with the wrong diagnosis. He didn't have a secretary/assistant, highly unusual, and Dr. Eggers suggested I write a check for money I did not think I owed.

Another amblyopia specialist told me that my 7 year old son would never see in his right eye because a nerve was underdeveloped. I went to Dr. Eggers as the amblyopia expert in Tri-State area. He looked at both eyes and told me that he knew why the other guy made such diagnosis. The nerve looked bad. However, he said that the nerve in the 20-20 eye looked the same and as a reasonable person he could not explain why the bad eye would not be able to see 20-20 (with glasses). He made no promises, but said that we should try and see. After 4 months of patching and exercises my son in his bad eye is 20-25 with glasses and can read without glasses (with his good eye patched).I have next appointment in 3 months, but as it is now, my son has two good eyes that he can live normal life with.Now, off to write a review on that other doctor.

As many reviewers have noted, Dr Eggers is considered on of the "best" in the specialty of strabismus surgery. However, my experience with Dr Eggers was far from what I expected. I was referred to him by another top doctor and trusted his years of experience and accolades. I found him to be very nice and professional when I went in to his office to diagnose my problem but there was a very alarming lack of attention to detail. Maybe he's gotten a bit arrogant or the fact that he runs as a one-man-show, but he mis-diagnosed something that was incredibly obviously (to me) and promptly recommended surgery after only one 40 minute office visit. He had no assistants or anyone else to double check his diagnosis and I went into surgery the following week. Prior to going into surgery, I was suspicious about his diagnosis but figured "hey he is the expert" and went with it. It was only after surgery that it became obviously that he had completely missed the mark. I spent the following… year going to a number of other eye surgeons in order to correct Dr Egger's mistakes. Even now, two years after my first surgery, my eye is not 100%. My advice- always get multiple opinions and do your research before committing to a doctor.

Dr. Howard Eggers is an extremely knowledgeable physician that demonstrates an excellent bedside manner. Unlike many doctors of today he takes his time to discuss all questions and addresses all issues raised. He is great and I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Eggers is an incredibly talented doctor that specializes in double vision. He is very patient, methodical doctor who's specialty is in double vision in children was able to diagnose and recommend surgery for my issue. Dr. Eggers was successful in doing my surgery where other doctors were not. He does not have any support staff which is a little surprising as he "does it all". He's a bit of a mad scientist but at the end of the day - took care of my issue and for that ...I'm grateful
