Dr. Howard Jay Fullman, MD

Dr. Fullman was my gastro-enterologist before he became the medical director of the Kaiser West LA Hospital. I got liver cancer from a blood transfusion and caught hep-c. He also saw me after he became director on Sundays. I thought he was thorough and I got very good care. One time when there was a question he ran down to the radiologist and got an immediate answer. After years of living with hep-c I got liver cancer. At the time, Los Angeles did not have an organ donor consent on the driver’s license so there was a shortage of livers and he worked with the staff and helped facilitate getting a transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. It was very stressful because a number of requirements had to be met on a government and insurance level due to the shortage of donors and the value of a liver. After the transplant my care was transferred to a hepatologist. It all worked out well and a lot of it was due to the good care I received at Kaiser from Dr. Fullman.
