Dr. Howard Alvin Lippes, MD

I had a very disappointing experience with this doctor. He was extremely rude, condescending, and didn't listen to my concerns. He constantly interrupted me while I was talking and seemed more focused on pushing surgery than considering other options. He also made a statement that medications don't have side effects, which is simply not true. The visit was further frustrating as we waited over an hour without any explanation, and when he finally came in, he was dismissive and unprofessional, repeatedly asking why he was there. Despite being an endocrinologist, he seemed to lack basic knowledge and professionalism. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone

He is just a rude individual who doesn’t actually listen to his patients. My primary warned me that he is not easy to deal with, wish I would have listened before being embarrassed and belittled. Save yourself the time and find a doctor who cares.

Without having the knowledge of what my results meant I had to chase to finally get the MD review of these. No issues thankfully but no patient should need to chase on these results. Dr.Lippes has fabulous patient interaction- however follow up is simply not acceptable for patients to worry about their results for so long

I am a 26 y.o. female living out of the country to study. I recently had to switch to a managed medicaid option. I'd went to a specialist ($$$) in my country of study who recommended I see an endocrinologist for a hormonal problem the OBGYN & derm have not been able to treat effectively. My insurance provider contacted his office at the Piver center to schedule an appointment for me. A woman named Michelle requested that I have my primary send records before I make can appointment. Upon calling my primary, I learned that records requests was the responsibility of Dr. Lippes office. So I asked Michelle to send in a request. Days went by and I still hadn't heard from Dr. Lippes office. I decided to follow up with them and Michelle told me (and I quote) "Oh, we just got them [the records].... but we were confused why you needed to come in" ....When I began to explain my situations, I was abruptly cut off. Michelle interrupted me to say that she and the nurse don't think Dr. Lippes… would want to see me but they'll call me back on Wednesday after checking with him. She'd never even considered that my derm & OBGYN records were more relevant than outdated records from my childhood. 3.30pm Wednesday rolls around and I still hadn't heard from the office. I follow up with them again for Michelle to tell me that "Oh, yeah, Dr. Lippes says he cant treat you based on your records. He said that if you don't like your dermatologist to find another one." When I asked how he can make a medical assumption based off of 6 year old records and if I can come in and speak to the nurse, she replied "You can come in but the nurse probably wont talk to you." So, thank you for NOTHING Dr. Lippes. Don't you have the "know-how" to understand that you can't assess a patients conditions based on records from their childhood? Or is this just another case of discrimination attached to the stigma of Medicaid? You deemed my conditions were beneath your expertise without even having an accurate frame of reference. You wasted two weeks of my valuable time searching for a doctor who values patients and cares more about their practice rather than making money off patients. As for the receptionist - Michelle never called me ONCE to follow up while knowing i'm on a time crunch. She couldn't be bothered to provide the simple service of following up with me. She was rude, impatient, unpleasant and downright NASTY. I will have to wait until next year to see an endocrinologist when I return to Buffalo. However - I'm VERY thankful I could not schedule an appointment with them because after that nightmare of an experience, I do not trust they would have my best medical interests at heart. It is clear that this office does not feel they can make money from servicing those with medicaid.

1st and only appt, without requesting bloodwork, he told me and my husband that I don't have a thyroid problem and that my problem is that I do everything for my family and need to do stuff that makes ME happy. Then he called and said I NEEDED to do an iron test, I did, and then couldn't get them to call me back for results or follow up. Two weeks later, I went to Dr Dandona, who had me do BLOODWORK immediately before he made a diagnosis and my levels were so off that I ended up on 120mg of armour thyroid because I do, in fact have a thyroid problem. I would Dr Lippes to anyone, ever....

I have had a horrible experience with Dr. Lippes and would NOT recommend him. He is arrogant and sloppy. He was unresponsive to a life threatening issue. Either he didn't really care or he was extremely sloppy. In the end, he had no desire to help or follow through. I'm not sure what kind of doctor he is but I would never recommend him to anyone.

We called the office for an appointment and were told the MD would need to review the record before giving an appointment. It took 3 months for that to happen and then we were told I am sorry but the physician is declining you as a patient!

Only accepting new patients if your doctor calls and asks him to see you. Booking is 5 months out?

I had been struggling with my primary trying to get my TSH stable. Dr. Lippes spent a great deal of time explaining so much about the reason it was a concern and the way my body's horomones worked, and he even explained how the hormone assay's worked to me! Not only that, he asked me a bunch of questions and let me ask all of mine. I was really impressed that he offered me so much of his time to do that. I'm so happy I was able to get to see this physician. Only gave receptionist a 3 out of 4 - she was perfectly professional, just not warm/friendly. The assistant who took my vitals/etc was both.
