Dr. Howard R Sampley, MD

When our son was admitted to Riverbend Hospital, he received a couple of consults from Dr. Sampley. They got along well and Dr. Sampley told our son to contact him after his discharge and he would provide names of counselors for continuing consultation. Our son is chronically ill and spends most of his energy trying to survive. After being discharged we contacted Sampley's office several times--leaving four messages. He never returned a single call. As the issue escalated, we were told that Sampley does not have a receptionist and only checks messages once a week. A few weeks later, our son was back in the hospital for a few more days. He was in the process of being discharged one morning, but was told we needed to wait for a final consult from Sampley. We were packed and ready to leave as we waited on Sampley. After an hour, we asked the care manager and the nurse to see when Sampley might arrive. They were unable to get in contact with him (although he was suppose to be at the… hospital) and he did not return any of their messages. We waited another hour and the hospitalist tried to find Sampley--but was unable. After many more failed attempts, we left the hosptial without his consult (after waiting 5 hours). We had to leave in order to meet with the Home Infusion Service at our house. Sampley never made any attempt to contact us and never returned any calls.

Dr Sampley asked appropriate, nonjudgmental, and insightful questions. He made me feel SO much better.
