Dr. Hugh Ric Harnsberger, MD

Dr. Ric Harnsberger is a Professor of Radiology and Director of Neuroradiology Division in the University of Utah, Department of Radiology. He is an internationally recognized expert in Head and Neck Imaging. Over a 15 year academic career he has published 200 articles and 5 books in this area. In 2002 he published PocketRadiologist Head and Neck, Top 100 Diagnoses. In 2003 his book PocketRadiologist: Temporal Bone, Top 100 Diagnoses was published.

A graduate of UCLA Medical School, Dr. Harnsberger did his radiology residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fellowships in Body Imaging, Head and Neck Imaging and Neuroradiology followed. His major area of research interest is centered on the use of high-resolution T2 imaging of diseases of the inner ear and cerebellopontine angle. His Head and Neck Imaging Handbook published in 1994 has become the preferred quick reference guide to head & neck imaging. Imaging of the Temporal Bone written in …conjunction with Dr. Joel Swartz, published in 1997 is considered the gold standard reference for imaging information on the temporal bone. In 2000 Dr. Harnsberger received the RSNA Roentgen Centennial Fellow Award for his proposal entitled: Radiologic Digital Teaching Files Data Model.

Dr. Harnsberger currently continues as Professor of Radiology in the University of Utah, Department of Radiology. He is also the Chairman and CEO of AMIRSYS, Inc. in Salt Lake City. Current projects are headed by developing the AMIRSYS STATdx reference system and writing Diagnostic Imaging: Head and Neck textbook.
