Dr. Hugh Phong Wong, MD

I do not recommend Dr. Wong for any sleep disorders. He claims to treat the whole body, but does not - he only focuses on sleep apnea and not the side effects that a CPAP can cause in some patients. He's judgemental about people's weight - even though it is well known that people with cataplexy struggle with weight loss due to lack of hypocretin; something one would think that a sleep medicine doctor would know. Also, upon obtaining records for a new doctor, he falsely put that I had "no issues with CPAP" and completely failed to write down all of the other health issues I experienced after being put on it. Shame on him. I highly recommend seeking someone that has more knowledge about sleep related issues, chronic disease, and understands the whole body and can remaining compassionate as well as can listen.

My appointment was rushed, Dr Wong talked down to me, argued that I should not be taking some meds without even knowing why I take them. He basically said he didn't think he could help me. His office staff and respiratory therapists are wonderful caring people. Sad they work for the "Wong" doctor.

I was told several times during the appointment that I am the doctor. Did not listen to what I had to say. Was the "expert" on everything.

Arrogant. Did not review my chart before appointment. Needs some training on how to deal with patients.

Dr. Wong took over treating my sleep disorder about 2 years ago, and he has been incredible! He always gives helpful suggestions, listens to any concerns and explains the different courses of action we can take regarding medications. Thanks to him and Dr. Eusibio, I actually feel like a semi-normal person who can stay awake to spend time with family and friends.

I've been going to Via Christi Sleep Medicine for over 10 years. I've had several doctor changes over last couple years. I've never had a problem until now. Dr Wong is very egotistical and couldn't care less what you have to say or how you feel. In fact every time I ask a question he waves it off with a smirk and a wave like it doesn't matter. On only our third visit not only did he take me off a prescription I've been taking for 3 years without any discussion on how to handle that but he continued to discuss medication as we're walking down the hall. Had absolutely no regard for my privacy or my dignity. After putting in a complaint they actually tell me after all these years Chris Decker the manager I guess told me might be best I go somewhere else. I've made a point to make all my doctors Via Christi to keep it all inclusive. Now I'm looking for a good attorney that will make them care About privacy.

I spoke with a patient advocate at Via Christi re: an appointment with Dr H Wong. The reason for me submitting today is because I read the notes from that visit on the patient portal and there is very little truth to anything that was written by him as far as the education and discussion he claims he had with me. At what point does what he is doing get looked in to further? He spent the entire time I was in the exam room verbally attacking me and did nothing to show me he had an ounce of compassion for his patients. Several physicians have voiced to me they have had other patients who have had the same experience there. Not to mention the other reviews on here. Just because he is the only doctor there doesn't give him the right to make people feel the way they do. It is now 2 months since my appointment and this has still bothered me, obviously or I wouldn't be spending my Sunday morning writing this. I will be reaching out to Tricare to see about a reporting option with them so… other patients have a heads up. That is all I am able to do to help ensure someone else isn't made to feel the way I was that day. Apparently, Ascension and/or Via Christi is not willing to do anything to address this concern that has been brought to them by so many patients already.

The first thing I ask is that you look at his other reviews, 6 of the 5-star reviews managed to show up in 2 days, in my opinion that seems a little fishy. I wish I would have found this site before my appointment, so I could have cancelled it. Now as for my experience, he has no bed side manner at all. I have had a lot of doctor appointments in my lifetime and this is the first time I have ever gotten up and left before it was over. He does not listen to the patient's concerns, he is rude and will interrupt you. He made it very clear that if he doesn't agree with your concern he will not even address it. That is why I left. In my opinion, find another doctor, even a mediocre doctor would be a vast improvement.

This young doctor is an example of why we should not trust doctors. Bad example. The other doctor I used to see here was nice and listen to me. This person does not care how I feel about my condition affect my life. Will not go to him again.

I have suffered with insomnia for over thirty years. I have seen many certified behavioral sleep medicine specialists... here and in " is Angeles. I have CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy) with every specialist... stimulus control, sleep restriction/deprivation, sleep hygiene/environment therapy, passive awake/paradoxical intention therapy and bio-feedback therapy... taken over ten different medications until four years ago a medication was prescribed that finally worked. The one and only time I saw Dr. Wong he promptly let me know he would not renew my prescription and he wanted me to start sleep restriction/deprivation therapy to satisfy his curiosity. When I told him I had been through this therapy many times before he didn't care. In fact he told me that this type of therapy worked on 100% of his patients. He didn't know basic things about my medical records so I got up and left. I felt like he treated all my past therapies were worthless. I'm in my sixties and I am through with… young egotistical Dr's w/o won't listen. I'm not a guinea pig... life is too short!
