Dr. Huong Quynh Nguyen, MD

Dr. Nguyen is a doctor that does not put her patients needs first. It is all about making money and getting her patients to come in every 3-4 months or she holds her patients prescriptions ransom until they schedule an appointment and come in. Her staff walks on eggshells around the doctor due to her mean demeanor towards them and often in front of the patients. They seem to be afraid of her and are not willing to help the patient communicate with her due to this underlying fear. She use to conduct an A1C test in the office and now she makes the patient go elsewhere which is a hassle. She is a diabetic doctor and that is the number one test given to see the average glucose level of the patient for the past 90 days or so. We have to drive 50 miles to see her so coming every 3 months is impossible and in December, she turned my son away after speaking to him for less than 5 minutes and after we waited for more than an hour. She didn't bother checking his eyes, feet, skin, heart,… ears, or anything else that she could have to make the visit halfway reasonable and useful. He was turned away because my teenager forgot his meter and the doctor didn't order his blood tests before he came so it wasn't completely his fault that she didn't have any numbers. They had just scheduled the appointment and said come. In the end, I had to practically beg for the doctor to give a prescription for insulin which isn't something that is optional for a type 1 diabetic to stay alive. She would only give enough insulin for the amount that would hold him through to the next appointment. She still charged over $300 for an office visit where she told him, "I can't help you, come back in two weeks." Then, when we go to schedule, the next available is three months later, they have nothing else available. I never got a courtesy call and ended up missing that appointment. If I would have had the reminder, I would have made the appointment or rescheduled. I tried to make another appointment so my son could get another prescription and she said I had to pay the fee first. I called to see if we could make arrangements, if they could at least lower the fee, and when I spoke with Petra she was unreasonable about the $100 no-show fee, she wouldn't talk to the doctor (not that it would have made a difference because she is all about the money). Petra implied that I was a liar when I told her that the number she called was not a primary and she insisted that I said it was. I told her that we use to fill out paperwork at the beginning of each appointment that gave that information and the last time we went in, we didn't and that was why they didn't have the right number. She argued with me insisting that paperwork was only filled at the first appointment, once again implying I was lying. She was insulting and disrespectful and a poor representative of what should be a quality office. I asked her to talk to the doctor but she said that the doctor sees patients and doesn't handle the business end but that is untrue. All aspects of this office goes through Doctor Nguyen because she micromanages. I told Petra that I would be writing reviews online and she did not care and obviously did not care enough for the doctor's sake. At almost 18, my child is ready to go to an adult doctor but now there is another $30 fee to have records transferred. What I have written is true to the best of my knowledge and it could have been settled had the office treated this longtime patient with some respect.

Dr. Nguyen is an amazing doctor. She is very knowledgeable, sweet, kind, and helpful. She does not at all make me feel rushed when we have our appointments and she always makes sure that i have EVERYTHING I need to take care of my diabetes.

My daughter loves Dr.Nguyen, she looks forward to every visit. My daughter is sometimes emotional on our visits and Dr.Nguyen jumps right in with positive and kind words. I love how she takes the time to make my daughter feel special to her. We drive 45 minutes to see Dr.Nguyen and I'd drive 45 more if I had to.

It was such a joy to finally meet Dr Nguyen - she was able to accurately diagnose my child, start treatment, and get positive results.We were sick of the run-around, long waits and frustration of Children's Hospital Central California Endocrine department.Finally, local MD who is intelligent, speaks to us versus down at us, and empowers my son to take charge of his condition.
