office staff is terrible, I had to have a doctor to doctor referral to this doctor. I wanted to see this doctor really bad. He treated my dad for many years. I called their office to see if they got my doctor to doctor referral and i got the run around. Here is is a month later and still no contact. A doctor can only be a good as his office staff.

Terrible doctor. My mom was admitted to Harris Methodist Southwest with pneumonia from human metapneumovirus and was intubated for just over a week, at which point she was progressing toward discharge. A few days after extubation, she began getting sick again with different symptoms including a wet cough with a bad-smelling sputum - obviously a bacterial infection. Duong insisted that it was caused by aspiration of food or drink, ignoring strong evidence to the contrary. It worsened over the next few days to the point that she had to be reintubated and started on bactrim. A sputum culture was finally ordered days later. Eight days after reintubation, the culture revealed the obvious - she had acquired pseudomonas from the first ventilation. Only then, after she had become very ill again, was a correct antibiotic for a gram negative bacteria started. Unfortunately, it was subsequently pulled too early, leading to reinfection with a more resistant strain. Finally, three weeks later, she… was breathing well, with all indicators (tidal volumes, end tidal CO2, cough strength) markedly better than when she was previously extubated, yet he inexplicably insisted on tracheation rather than extubation, and indeed refused to extubate without tracheation. Tracheation required placement of a feeding tube. After several failures to place a Dobhoff tube, Dr Duong and his wife attempted placement, announcing successful placement into the stomach. Only it wasn't in the stomach, Duong's insistence to the contrary over the next five days notwithstanding. We insisted on an x-ray, which revealed the tip to still be in the esophagus, yet Duong insisted it was being misread. On the 8th day with no nutrition, we insisted on having a GI take a look. It was indeed still in the esophagus not the stomach as Duong repeatedly insisted, so a PEG tube was finally placed. After a month of continued improvement under tracheation, problems began to arise as the result of an obvious trach cuff leak, yet Duong and his staff denied the existence of the leak even as mom struggled to breathe for the next four days until it failed to the point of extreme hypercapnia and acidosis. At that point, it was finally replaced with a new trach. The second night with the new trach, an overnight RT overinflated the cuff until it catastrophically failed, splitting end to end and damaging mom's trachea in the process. Due to the damage (hospital-acquired tracheomalacia), a cuff seal could not be achieved with the replacement trach. This triggered a series of events that led to multiple trach replacements - the result being 9 trach replacements since the original in just over 4 weeks, all while Duong refused to acknowledge the obvious tracheal damage triggering the cuff failures. Tracheomalacia was finally accurately diagnosed by another doctor filling in. We ultimately got her transferred, with no help from Duong or his team, and she is finally being treated for the hospital-acquired condition. Dr. Duong goes to absurd lengths to deny or conceal his errors, and they are many more than are covered here. His errors turned a two-week stay into a 7-month-plus nightmare with permanent tracheal damage.

Dr. Duong clearly understood my symptoms, and offered a wealth of information about them, as well as a listening ear to understand any underlying symptoms or problems. He gave me a clear and comprehensive report of my conditions and the resolutions. He was very patient in answering my many questions. I think he is an excellent doctor.
