Dr. Ian Murchie Thompson, MD

I didn't get pass my first phone call to try to schedule a visit after my PCP sent them a referral. The rep on the phone asked about insurance fist. I told her what coverage i had (Medicare, coverage through my former employer and coverage under employer) She put me om hold then came back and said they were not contracted with one of my insurance carriers and would not be accepting the referral. End of discussion. After a couple of seconds of silence and no other comments on her part the call ended. I was actually dumbfounded at her attitude and lack of trying to present opinions like working with other carriers or getting an OON authorization...anything. Nope couldn't be bothered. So now my PCP and I are back to looking for a specialist for me to see. I went on to the group's website and what pops up first?? A make a payment screen which somehow doesn't surprise me now given the "money first" experience from my first and last call. Here's hoping neither the person I spoke to, or Dr.… Thompson ever find themselves facing a potentially life ending situation and the first question asked is about money. Dr. Thompson and the other physicians in the group may be good doctors; I'll never know. I fully understand doctors want and need to be paid for the services they provide and I fully understand that I as a patient have a responsibility to pay my copay/deductible/coinsurance for the care provided. But this specific interaction was wholly about the almighty dollar the patient need be da.....(I guess I can't use that word) I've been involved in health care for over 30 years - contracting with physicians/providers and managing those relationships and helping to ensure they were fairly and timely paid. So, I understand how this should work. And this is not how a "new" patient experience should happen.

BRILLIANT! sharp, quick, smart, intuitive, insightful, perceptive, attentive, believable, brave, caring, cheerful, considerate, cordial, discerning, easygoing, empathetic, faithful, funny, generous, gentle, giving, good listener, heartfelt, honest, humorous, AND KIND! I know this Firsthand. With the Grace of God, Dr. Ian Thompson Jr. , and Dr. Chul Ha, I am not a widow!

Excellent physician.

I can't remember when a doctor was as professional and had some a great demeanor as Dr. Thompson. A very intelligent doctor (check out his involvement with UTHSC and cutting edge of technology).

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, it was clear "active surveillance" was the right approach and Dr. Thompson the right physician. I was told he was so overbooked that I probably wouldn't get to see him, but it was not all that difficult. I found him to be not only "the" expert in the field but also a genuinely warm, caring human being.
