Dr. Ilyse Haberman, MD

This “Dr” was one of the worst. I had to wait almost 3 months to see her. The day of my appointment she spend 3 minutes with me. Haber didn’t care, she was so cold and she referred me to see a glaucoma specialist, i did it. The glaucoma specialist did the laser in both of my eyes and it didn’t work. Also, haber told me I have dry eyes. She sent the prescription to the pharmacy, the eye drops cost $280. I informed her of the price and asked her for a generic eye drop, her answer was get any eye drop from the drug store. Obviously, this woman cares about money and not patients.

I had an excellent appointment with Dr. Haberman. She offered a clear explanation of a condition I'm being watched for, and addressed my concerns in a positive and professional manner.

BUYER BEWARE In Jul-Aug 2017, I had my cataracts removed by Dr. Ilyse Haberman at NYU Langone Opthalmology. It has been almost one year later and I am STILL having difficulty with my vision. I traded one lesser problem for one greater problem. And there is nothing I can do about it. I am screwed. For the rest of my life. And I am FURIOUS!!!!! The most serious long-term issues are that 1) While my distance vision improved, my middle and close up vision got worse. My middle vision (computer) is blurry. And I can no longer read print on bottles, jars, packaging. I used to be able to read fine print by removing my glasses. No more. Recently, I was at a theater box office and couldn't read the seating chart. It makes me want to cry. This was NEVER explained to me during the pre-op discussion. Why did the doc just assume that I wanted improved distance and not ask? 2) I need very bright lights now to function. I have had to put flashlights all over my small apartment to help me… see. This also was NEVER explained to me in advance. Had I known of these serious post-op issues in advance, I would NEVER have done the surgery. NEVER. I would rather lose a leg than lose my vision. Why were these serious issues never discussed with me? Not to mention the 3+ months of post-op back and forth with the doctor and NYU's optician and my optician because the doctor gave me the WRONG prescription for my new lenses! I was sent out into the world to fend for myself. NYU Opthalmology had no in-house optician at the time. It took a long while to discover that the scrip was wrong. Meanwhile, my vision was very messed up and I was suffering. I was seriously depressed. And then there was the cost and time of having to seek out a 2nd opinion from another ophthalmologist. This doctor said that my cataracts were probably mild and that it was probably too soon to remove them. She said that while my ophthalmologist probably did a good job with the surgery, she was too young to pay attention to the end result focus (refractive) aim - meaning my reading and intermediate vision would be very different than before. She also said that typically opthalmologists have patients try on trial frames and lenses after the surgery to determine the correct scrip. This doctor did not. This was a big disconnect with NYU Langone's procedures. NYU Langone dropped the ball with me. Plain and simple. Dr. Haberman should have been honest with me and recommended I NOT have the surgery, given that my cataracts were mild. But no, this is a business first and foremost. Why turn down an opportunity to bill for surgery?
