Dr. Ioan Marius Campeanu, MD

Reading reviews is critical and I wished I had before seeking help with this Doctor. When I’m crisis somehow reading reviews didn’t seem like my first priority however. Feeling re-victimized by this Doctor from his lack of compassion, probing judgemental questions and overall robotic coldness. I will never return to him after this horrific session. May be time for him to consider retirement. Confronting sort of attitude is why people still feel the stigma and judgement when seeking help for depression. People seeking help, seek any other professional, and I use this term Loosely in Dr Campeanu’s case.

Dr Campaneau has been nothing but helpful and encouraging to me for the past 8 yrs. I’ve seen him. He is kind, gentle, and wise. I highly recommend him!

He actually is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about in terms of psychiatry. He comes off a bit abrasive, at first I did not like him very much because of this but I gave him a try and after two visits found him very insightful and actually very helpful. I’ve now been with him two years and am completely satisfied.

Granted Dr. Campeanu would not win Dr. congeniality of the year award. However, when researching a psychiatrist I was impressed by his credentials. Which certainly, he does not tout. It has been my impression...person's with diagnosis...are constantly looking for something/one they feel fits them "right" and they go unhappily through life, non-compliant. They do not seem to have the ability to WORK on their diagnosis. Rather sit quietly and listen to what their therapists suggest. The years that Campeanu has practiced and the experience he has would allow him to quickly recognize what he felt was a misdiagnosis. Granted he is allows only 15 minutes to meet with a patient. That is not his choice...but rather America's present position for treating the mentally challenged...which is dictated by insurance companies. I have found him to be attentive when I meet with him for specific answers to prepared questions. Certainly...he has when necessary extended our time until he… feels comfortable that I am clear on subjects I have presented. In a psychiatrist I do not look for a friend...I look for competence and he has this in abundance.

I am writing this as a concerned mental health professional. My patient self-referred to Dr Campeanu. Dual dx patient was treated for MDD, but in a 2 minute case conference, Dr C vociferously stated to me that he did not believe in the concurrent diagnosis conferred upon the patient by me and several other mental health professionals! He was belligerent, snide and lacked any type of insight. Not recommended for anyone GLBT, Person of Color, or otherwise "diverse" from Dr C.

Everything in all the reviews is true; he is cold, seemed to be in a bad mood, doesnt't spent any time with pacients, may say a bit rude.. I never went back with campeanu, plus i cancelled the app with plenty of time to avoid the no show fee and they still sent it ( like 150) i have to call and fight... Definitely not recomended... But is just my experience

I have to drive to Burbank to see him, and pay a $10 copayment for him to see me for 5 mins! I'm scheduled for 15 min sessions, and I have yet to have a full session and I have been seeing him for a while. Planning on hanging this year when my insurance options are up for chAnges. I do not recommend him at all. Very cold- makes you feel uneasy- and it shouldn't be like that with this type of a doctor.

No, I definitely would not recommend him to any one! I've been treated for major depression for more than 15 years. I am on 5 medications prescribed for me by my previous psychiatrist, who was always kind, caring, spent time with me and ALWAYS returned my phone calls. He knew me so well and I trusted him without question. I had to change doctors for insurance purposes and Dr.Campeanu was basically my only choice. My therapist and previous psychiatrist diagnosed me with major depression and borderline personality disorder. Dr. Campeanu changed it to bipolar 1, recent episode mixed, severe. What? How would he be able to diagnose me differently without taking the time to talk to me and see for himself. I had hoped he would consult my therapist to get more info about me but he never did. I don't agree with this new diagnosis. He has no basis for this diagnosis. To me, this shows an incredible arrogance on his part. I want to discuss this with Dr. Campeanu because it is critical for my… mental health to be treated for the right thing. He is the one who prescribes medication now. He just agreed to refill the medications I was already on and that's it. I can't talk to him about it because he is intimidating to me with his aloofness. I don't like him. Share my problems, my fears, my experiences with him? I don't think so. Take my word. Research the doctors available and choose someone else. For the first time I am fearful of getting worse. I had to give up my therapist too so I now have no professional support at all. I'm afraid for my my life because I have felt suicidal in the past. This is serious. Good luck to you all. .

His office staff made mistakes in scheduling and he accused me and he would be extremely annoyed to me (who has anxiety problem already). Misdiagnosed. Each meeting is 15 min. Very authoritarian style which just doesn't seem appropriate.
