Dr. Itoro Ekopimo Ibia, MD

I saw Dr. Ibia and first was pleased with her care. But after a couple of months and at a point when I was feeling particularly badly she abruptly stopped responding to my texts and calls. No response whatsoever. I’ve read that she’s done the same to others. While I don’t know what I did to prompt her to cut off all contact, I do know that it is completely unethical in my opinion. I am left on medication that is causing difficult side effects and I have no doctor to oversee me.

I used to see Dr.Ibia and was not a fan of her very cold nature so I decided to stop seeing her. I was surprised to hear that my friend was one of her patients as well and felt the same way. When my sister was looking for a psychiatrist recently I mentioned her name but that she was kind of rude and unfriendly. She saw her for a couple of months before they decided to space out appointments. When my sister tried to make another appointment Dr.Ibia never got back to her. She called her again and left a message and still never heard from her. When she spoke to her general practitioner about what had been happening the doctor said she would get in touch with Dr.Ibia to see what the problem was. Eventually my sisters doctor informed her that Dr.Ibia said she just did not want my sister as a patient anymore. Dr.Ibia’s lack of professionalism as a psychiatrist who is meant to support people who are stuck in a rough time is appalling and concerning. We still do not know why she barred my… sister as a patient without any notification but my friends/family and I will definitely NOT recommend her to anyone anymore.

She is thorough, accurate in her diagnosis, and takes the time to talk to me about what is going on in my life, rather than just writing out a prescription. She has never steered me wrong and I am grateful I found her.

I cannot recommend this doctor.

Dr. Ibia has been nothing but wonderful. When i first came to her i was a wreck, depressed, suicidal, anxious, angry, the works. She diagnosed me with a few different things. At first me and my family were a bit reluctant to believe the diagnoses (no one necessarily wants to believe that they are bipolar). After trying many different medications, and many therapy sessions i can happily say that i have never felt this normal. Dr. Ibia has shown that she not only knows what she is doing, but that she genuinely cares about my well being. She is easy to get along with and i always look forward to my sessions with her. I cant thank her enough for the effort that she has put into my recovery (and i would assume that my family thinks the same). I would recommend her to anyone inquiring about psychiatrists. And i would absolutely not be where i am if it wasn't for her.

I've had four psychiatrists and two therapists since I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 1999. Dr. Ibia is by orders of magnitude the best psychiatrist I've ever had. She's a psychiatrist, not a therapist, but she talks to me! And she listens! She has told me things about the meds I've been on for 16 years that I never learned in the 12 years I was on them before beginning to work with her - about interactions with OTC drugs and possible long-term side-effects - and she is extremely diligent about monitoring for these effects via asking questions and ordering regular blood tests. Dr. Ibia asks incisive questions about my life to determine whether anything medically significant is going on, while at the same time being warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental. Her stated goal is to keep me in a place where my symptoms are being managed - not just where I'm surviving them - and she strikes what I perceive to be an excellent balance in being willing to "tweak" my meds to deal with… changes in my mental health, without reaching for drugs as a solution to everything. She is competent and caring and extremely concerned that I am getting the most helpful care possible. Possibly the best doctor - not just psychiatrist - I've ever had.

I only meant to click on one star btw! I couldnt take it back. A zero would be my true choice if that was am option. Dr. Ibia was nice during the first 2 appointments, but when she saw that one of my med levels was low after I had been almost toxic a few weeks earlier, she freaked out. I told her I felt like offing myself, which I had never admitted to a Dr. I had been on antidepressants for 10+ years when I started seeing her. Lithium alone, wasn't treating my depression. I requested to be put back on an antidepressant as those usually worked best in the past for my depression. She said I was being impractical and she refused to give me an antidepressant even though I was feeling like offing myself at the time. Needless to say, I never went back to her and I'm thankful I didn't. Lastly, I wanted to mention that I physically didn't feel quite right on Lithium do i stooped it on my own prior to seeing a new Dr. Within a week of stopping it I got kidney stones. Most likely… related to my toxic level one month and not drinking enough water at all. Just drink a lot of water if u take Lithium!

I saw Dr Ibia for a couple of years for depression and was on medication. I felt my medication was not working well and when I told her of my concerns she would not consider a new medication or adding to my medication. The medication stopped working well and I stopped going. When I called her to set up an appointment she told me she was no longer taking new patients. I have absolutely been lost in this depression and my therapist told me she did the wrong thing. A therapist cannot stop seeing you and break the patient-therapist relationship without giving referrals to a new therapist and what she did was unethical and wrong. Avoid this women at all costs!

I can only rate on the ease of appointment and promptness: I was only referred to this doctor and called hoping to set up an appointment as a new patient. A week went by and I left another message but the dr. never returned my 2 phone calls. I guess I will have to find another one in the area that is accepting new patients and takes BLBS, but a simple return phone call from her would have been appreciated!

I have taken my son to dr Ibia for a long time and she is very friendly, professional and takes time to talk to him. I can highly recommend dr Ibia!
