Dr. Ivan Cheng, MD

I had very high hopes that this doctor’s reviews also reflected his character. Sadly, I was disappointed beyond compare. Failing to do anything more than the most cursory exam, and even without any referrals to some obvious follow up procedures like an MRI or anEEG, this ‘doctor’ simply stated that my symptoms are not spine related and dismissed me summarily. Time will tell, and the telling will be a revelation to some who though better of this doctor.

He is super cocky! He hurried through and said I didn’t need a surgeon. Just the worst disrespectful consult I have ever had. Sorry Stanford, poor choice.

“Do No Harm” is the Hypocratic Oath that all healthcare providers agree to observe above and beyond all else. Unfortunately, Dr. Cheng works within a system (Stanford Healthcare) that (I believe) prevents him from following the very basic oath that guides all medical practices. I have no doubt, Dr. Cheng is a very talented surgeon capable of sculpting the spine in a way that produces special medical publications. However, no matter how talented any doctor is, things can always go wrong. If they do, I hope the doctor would investigate what happened. But I am disabled as a result of a surgery Dr. Cheng performed on me almost 2 years ago. Instead of validating my pain and distress, Dr. Cheng and his staff got defensive about the fact that I awoke from his surgery in much worse shape than I went in. And I remain traumatized with a spine that is ruined.

ON 2012 I GOT A BACK SURGERY BY THIS SO CALLED DR , I BELIEVE HOWEVER HE IS A SALES MAN NOT A DR BECAUSE INSTEAD OF BEING HONEST HE PUSHES YOU TO HAVE A BACK SURGERY EVEN WHEN HE IS NOT QUALIFIED TO DO THESE COMPLEX SURGERIES BUT IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME SUFFER FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. HE MESSED UP MY BACK BIG TIME THAT NOT OTHER DR OR HOSPITAL WANT TO TAKE MY CASE TO FIX WHAT HE DID WRONG. HE HAS MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE BUT MOSTLY IN TEACHING NOT ON HANDS ON BECAUSE THE HOSPITAL HE IS WORKING ON AFTER FINDING OUT HE IS MENTALLY UNQUALIFIED THEY DECIDED TO PUT HIM TO TEACH INSTEAD TO GAIN EXPERIENCE. THE HOSPITAL HE WORKS IS ANOTHER PLACE WHERE THEY PRETEND TO HAVE A SPINE OR BACK SURGERY PROGRAM WHEN THEY REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT BUT IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME GO FOR IT .

Dr. Cheng was always very poliet, kind , patient with all my questions and very honest of what I have to expect after surgery. I couldn't have asked for more from him or his amazing staff. It was a very long and complicated surgery. 3 years later... He will be performing surgery on my spine again..i feel very confident with his abilities . Dr Chang does not offer surgery unless it's the only obvious way yo repair injuries. If I have to have surgery again, I'm very grateful it's with Dr. Cheng.

Where do I begin.. I attempted to have an appt with the so called Dr.. I have been suffering with back pain for 8 mos which turned into Scistic nerve pain the last 3mos .. obviously I have some impingement ..Stanford hospital sayd Dr would review my case and they came back with he will not see me .. I was shocked he told me to go back to Dr Alamin which I saw over 15 years and that was for pain in my neck arrea which went away .. I asked the scheduler if he could at least call me back so u can explain .. I wanted to see him because he was Neuro spine and Orthopaedic .. He told the scheduled he did not have to take my case go back to Allamin and he did not have to speak to me !!! Wow I’m soo shocked. U are the most arrogant uncaring SO called DR!! So unprofessional!!!

I DONT THINK HE IS QUALIFIED TO PERFORM BACK SURGERIES . HE DID NOT LEARN THE BASICS OF THESE COMPLEX SURGERIES BUT IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME AND SUFFER FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE GO WITH IVAN.

Before I met Dr. Cheng and his team I was already told that I would have to live in pain with limited mobility for the rest of my life. On the first visit Dr. Cheng and his team told me they would be able to help me with my mobility and relieve the constant pain so I could function. After one week in the hospital i was released and was able to take my kids to the Park that afternoon. Although I needed to take time to heal I was amazed I could do that. At the time of the surgery I weighed about 215 lb. today I weigh 185 lb. because I run 3 - 5 miles 4-5 times a week and Coach my sons Basketball Team. My nerve pain is slowly going away as I get stronger but I have no issues with my back. In the past I would walk bent over for 7-10 days once a month, immediately after the surgery I never walked bent over at the waist again!
