Dr. Ivan Garza, MD

Consultation with Dr. Garza on 1/23/2026 was a very positive and reassuring experience. He was professional yet pleasant; listened to my history but is efficient in getting through his evaluation process. I could see him working through the issues of my particular case as he asked many questions about my headaches. He came up with a plan for further tests explaining his reasoning and ideas about treatment pending testing results. He considered my specific needs as an elderly patient and did not push options leaving me to decide. He also had recommendations for my PCP for further health issues. I consider myself fortunate to have his expertise.

I cannot express how dissatisfied I was with my appointment(s) with Dr. Garza. I found him to be quite arrogant and narrow-minded. He often cut me off when I was explaining my illness/symptom history and was dismissive when I would ask questions - very much was "I am the smart doctor and you are the not-smart patient." I agree with past reviews that stated if you have a complex case, avoid Dr. Garza at all costs. He is also not considerate at all when it comes to your travel situation - be prepared to sacrifice time off of work to travel to Mayo on multiple occasions instead of having services/testing scheduled on the same day because he will not consider your individual situation.

If you are looking for a Dr. who is empathetic, he is NOT your guy!!! He was rude, did not listen to me, and told me he only had 10 min to talk to me even though I drove 2 days to see him. If you are a complicated case, see someone else!!!!

Honestly one of the worst neurologists I’ve seen. I went to him full of hope, but he just looked at my medical records and prescribed me the same medicine I already had. (AKA: useless) He also told me I would never get rid of the constant daily migraine I had. Well, thank god I did not listen to this doctor. I found near COMPLETE relief from my 24/7 pain he told me I never would. Seriously DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HIM

I went to Mayo because other mediocre doctors couldn’t find out what was wrong with me. Some even told me it was in my head that’s why I came to Mayo. Dr. Garza started off by berating me instantly telling me my story doesn’t check out and why would I come to see him if all these other doctors can’t find out what’s wrong with me. He said I needed a psych evaluation not a neurologist. He then did his clinical exam and back tracked a bit (while still being a jerk) as he noticed unilateral brisk reflexes on my left side (I’m a lefty). He then told me he would set me up over the next two weeks for testing but only for my piece of mind as he still thought I needed a psychologist. Weird as my mother is a psychiatrist and I’m an executive at a large company with two masters degrees living in Los Angeles. I didn’t come to Mayo to be laughed at, made fun or called crazy but that’s what I got. Later I was diagnosed somewhere else with a bad autoimmune disease that requires a… lifetime of treatment. I highly recommend never seeing this doctor ever.

Dr Garza is outstanding in every aspect of the word! However, the Mayo appointment coordination system and staff working on - at least in my case - it in my case seemed very unfriendly and uncaring (with a few notable exceptions) and with disregard for challenges facing those travel long from a distance too see a Mayo doctor.

He is the best with SCSFL

Dr. Garza obtained an accurate history and performed an appropriate physical exam. His orders were appropriated. The ability to return for follow up was delayed by referral time -slot appointments and our inability to stay longer due to costs. He has attempted to accommodate this problem.

Best doctor I have ever met, he cured me in the first apointment I had with him. And he has a lot of experience and he is very caring for his patients. In conclusion his the best docotor in neurology. Thanks
