Dr. Ivan Mac, MD

Very frustrating when calling Metrolina Eye and ALWAYS holding an excessive amount of time to either never get assistance or you leave a message for a return call that doesn't happen. My last call was 21 minutes on hold, and no one answered. I guess the positive out of this is they are consistent.

I went to see Dr. Mac after an adverse reaction to the second Moderna vaccine. Dr. Mac was completely dismissive and told me it was nothing more than dry eyes, which never were an issue prior to receiving the vaccine. In addition, he scheduled plugs to be put in my eyes for my follow up appointment without even discussing it with me or checking on my progress. I did not return.

I know Dr. Mac meant well, but I specifically asked him if it was possible for my vision to get worse with his laser floater treatment. He assured me that it might not fix everything, but it certainly could not make anything worse. I spent a lot of money and had three laser treatments, each time my vision got worse until my vision was drastically obstructed and my life greatly impacted. I recently went to a new surgeon who did a vitrectomy for me and I am finally able to see again! It has been life changing. I had despaired that I would never see again. Dr. Mac should just be honest and tell people that vitrolysis does not always improve vision and can, in fact, make your vision much worse. I wish someone had told me.

Most important - the outcome was excellent. Prior to surgery my vision with both eyes was poor and getting worse. With laser cataract surgery and monofocal lens implants I can see better for work and driving. Most web info on cataracts is directed at retirees. Dr Mac addressed my concerns regarding lifting restrictions and recovery time. The options he presented allowed me to resume work with better vision than I'd ever had. His facilities and support staff are excellent, but again, his surgery resulted in an astounding improvement in my vision.

I traveled from out of state and had a very good visit with Dr. Mac. I have suffered with dry eye for many years, been treated by several physicians and ophthalmologists, and he seemed more knowledgable than most. I was impressed with the exam and the ipl procedure he performed on me. I will be returning for another 3 ipl procedures 1 month apart, but it really seems to have helped me more after one treatment than years of prescription eye drops.

Did my cataract surgery and no longer have to wear glasses.
