Dr. Iyad Rashdan, MD

I cannot recommend this cardiology practice based on my experience. Over the course of my care, I frequently waited 1 to 1.5 hours in exam rooms before being seen. Communication from both the physician and office staff was often poor, and obtaining clear answers to questions was frustrating. My biggest concern involved medication management during pregnancy and postpartum. I was prescribed a medication while pregnant, and my pregnancy was documented throughout my care. After delivering my twins and picking up a refill, my pharmacist informed me that this medication is generally not recommended while breastfeeding. This was the first time anyone had discussed this issue with me. When I contacted the office, the physician acknowledged that the medication is excreted in human milk and is best avoided during breastfeeding. However, I was then told that because I had not specifically informed him during a later visit that I planned to breastfeed, he would not have known to discuss… stopping the medication. As a pregnant patient whose pregnancy was clearly documented, I found this response disappointing and lacking accountability. Breastfeeding plans are a routine consideration for many expectant mothers, and I believe this discussion should have occurred before starting or continuing the medication. I also felt that my concerns were not met with much empathy despite being pregnant and managing a cardiac condition. Recommendations, risks, medication alternatives, and treatment decisions were not discussed thoroughly, leaving me to discover important information on my own. Another major frustration was the recommendation for an echocardiogram during my pregnancy. The reason for the test, what information it was expected to provide, and whether it was truly necessary were never adequately explained to me. No one took the time to walk me through the procedure, discuss the expected findings, or help me understand how the results would impact my care. As a patient, I felt I was simply being told what to do rather than being included in decisions about my treatment. To make matters worse, I later received a bill for approximately $500 for the echocardiogram. As a family living on a single income, this was a significant financial burden. Had the purpose, benefits, and potential costs of the test been discussed more thoroughly, I would have been in a much better position to make an informed decision. Overall, the excessive wait times, poor communication, lack of proactive counseling regarding medications, insufficient explanation of testing and treatment recommendations, and dismissive handling of my concerns left me feeling unsupported and frustrated with my care.

Dr. Rashdan is very knowledgeable in his field and informs his patients as to what will be done, and he is very skilled as a cardiac physician. I'm sure that he is making the best medical decisions for me and my heart health. He is also understanding and has great bedside manners.
