Dr. J Samuel Tolman, MD

It is very difficult for me to understand how anyone could give this extremely intelligent doctor with years of experience and fantastic knowledge in his field could possibly give Dr. Tolman anything but the highest marks, but so be it. I was taken such good care of by Dr. Sam, he is compassionate and listens and never leaves a person wondering about their care...he explains everything and takes the fear out of what may lay ahead for each patient. I found him to be such a good doctor that when he left Swedish to practice a long ways a way...from Seattle, I am going to travel the distance every few months to stay his patient. He is a great doctor, and if you study his background and his training I doubt you could find anyone with his credentials any better. The day I was assigned to Sam after my first oncologist at Swedish retired, also a great doctor...was my lucky day. Since he left Swedish (and I'm traveling many miles to continue to see him) I have had to see so many oncologist… that I never know who I am going to see and I do not like that. I trust Sam Tolman with my life, obviously.

My wife had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was terrified of the whole chemo process. Tolman listened, actually talked through all the options and helped make the process stress free. He was a wonderful person and a great doctor.

I saw Dr. Tolman regularly for years. He was the most knowledgeable and caring Dr. I have ever known. As part of my Care Team he stepped up and advocated very forcefully for me at a time I was having a subdural hematoma- surgery on my brain. I had another condition (ITP) that the hospital staff, including the surgeons, hadn’t really tuned into. Dr. Tolman stepped in and I think could saved my life. Plus, he is a very fine man. Very personable, friendly, and kind.

Dr Tolman is one of the finest physicians around! He answers questions without hesitation, makes sure you understand, and is a top physician with all his patients.5
