Dr. Jack Leonard Armstrong, MD

I have been coughing (a lot) for almost 20 years. Every few years I go to doctors to figure this out and the results are always inconclusive, even after spirometry and chest CTs. At my first visit, Dr. Armstrong listened carefully, then tracked down all my previous medical records, then recommended a methacholine challenge (test) which gave definitive results. He got me on appropriate treatment and my cough is nearly gone after only about 6 weeks. Amazing. I no longer sit by the door at gatherings in case I have to leave with a coughing fit. Thank you, Dr Armstrong. A very smart doctor.

I have been dealing with hives since i was 14 i was very hopeful that once i moved to pa and had a different doctor i could maybe finally have it figured out or atleast an answer to why it happens. I went i to see medical arts allergy with doctor armstrong. The nurses and front staff were very polite. I pay my copay and am waiting to see the doctor. I was a short wait but also a 5 minute visit with the actual doctor. I again have never been there before as we are going over history he stops be between talking about things becomes condescending about my issues. Tells me he cant do any testing to help me offers me more medication over the counter which i said twice doesnt work for my allergies cause ive done it before again ive had this since 14 and its just getting worse. Offers nothing but a shot says its because of my thyroid which my thyroid specialist said years before is uncommon. He claimed happens all the time. Left me crying offered no emotional anything guess he doesnt care… that this is painful to be covered head to toe in hives on a daily basis unless in all drugged up everyday. Being 26 and having 5 pills to take every day and still having bad flare ups is normal i guess in the allergy world. The nurse politely tells me about a shot if my insurance covers it. Read the sheet and it even says 3 out of 10 with this condition has a CAUSE gee when do i get that figured out. But wait thats why i was there. He doesnt care about his patients. Glad i spent my copay for 5 minutes and no answers just more drugs.

Despite his experience, he was unable to provide any resources to aid in dealing with a common allergy that he says "a lot of people have". When I asked how other people address issues/living with this allergy, he dismissively replied "I don't know, what did you find out". This is his profession and expertise and he didn't care to get the answers to help his patients - only to do the tests and get paid. He also presented as annoyed with my questions and concerns about insurance covering certain types of tests. Office staff gave contradictory information about payments resulting in additional bills (they did not understand their own visits / policies). Secretary asked for my personal information at least 4 times while attempting to set up an appointment. Nurses were scattered and only one seemed competent in what she was doing which is a concern since most visits are with nursing contact.

Provided no insight into diagnosis. Follow up scheduled for one year. Acted like doing allergy testing was an inconvenience and wouldn't prescribe it.

Horrible bedside manner. Rude condescending and unintelligent. Very by the book and is unwilling to figure out what your breathing problems are just wants to throw pills and inhalers at you. The staff is ok but they also seem very short, and almost afraid of the doctors at his practice. This screams a dysfunctional work environment from miles away. Had to hold my tongue several times with this jerk. Turns out I had a severe case of hypothyroidism which was causing my unexplained rashes and asthma attacks. Was taking Spiriva and other rescue inhalers with horrible side effects that were completely ineffective. Had about 4-5 trips to the ER under his care. Have been on synthroid for almost a year and have not had a single "asthma attack", rash, and seasonal allergies have been reduced by 80%. This man needs to think outside the box, use his brain, and show that he actually has a medical degree. Customer's don't care that insurance companies are stiffing you, we will just tell… the insurance companies to drop you and never return to your business and put you out of practice. Wake up!!
