I am 32 weeks pregnant, and was pushed to get dental sealants at Enduring Smiles during a routine cleaning appointment today. I expressed concerns about the chemicals on my unborn baby, especially since this was a preventative care procedure and not at all critical. I was told it was fine and was pushed to do 'at least half.' After being pushed to get the sealants done without being able to do my research or get comfortable, I found multiple research articles & Drs who advise not to get sealants during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary because of the chemical BPA, which is an endocrine disruptor and a toxic chemical for developing systems, especially in fetuses. I've been so cautious during my pregnancy to drink from glass only (no plastic), eat organic, and minimize exposure to contaminants that could harm my unborn baby. I can't stop crying, I'm so upset, I feel completely taken advantage, of, lied to - you are supposed to trust your healthcare providers. I knew it wasn't right,… I felt it in my gut, but I let them pressure me and I couldn't regret it more. I asked my OB about the procedure, and she confirmed that they do not recommend having dental procedures done during pregnancy unless they're critical. The Enduring Smiles dental practice is unprofessional and unethical. And this isn't the first time I've been pressured to have unnecessary procedures done - Invisalign, Zoom whitening, fluoride, sell, sell, sell - it's disgusting. Plus, I was charged for the exam and cleaning when I have full dental insurance, to add insult to injury.
