Dr. John Arthur Glaser, MD

I was operated 5 years ago by Dr. Glaser for 2 level disease cervical spine injury. I have been doing wonderful ever since. He is not only extremely competent, he also has the personality qualities I seek in a surgeon. He listens carefully to patients and is calm mannered.

I have two MRI which indicates that I have annulear tears in my back, not to mention that a disk had gone through through to create a "herniation" situation in which the disk is hitting the nerve that runs down my leg. This Dr told me that "he didn't have to read the MRI report that was read and signed by a SC Board Certified Radiologist. Dr. Glaser indicated that his "credentials allowed hin to be expempt from reading the radiology report and claimed to state that there was 'NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BACK" that I was simply dealing with the natural progression of OLDER AGE ISSUES that and I needed to DEAL with it. He also told me to LOSE SOEM WEIGHT and to get ACTIVE as that would help with my lower back pain...When I told him that the injury that pushed the disk into the nerve of my back was caused by a 300 lbs guy tacking me playing volley ball in the sand...and that in addition to the back pain that I was loosing control of my urination, he abruptly ended the conversation.. I have… since filed a complaint with the SC Medical Licensing Board based upon the fact that he completely discounted the credentials of another colleague. In essence, "Dr Glaser" went outside of his medical speciality when he attempted to practice outside of his area. While I don't dispute that he may look at multiple MRI's in his practice. Dr. Glaser does not have advance traning, certification, as well well as liscenseing from the State of SC to officially read and interpet MRI films.

The nursing staff is very pleasant. So we had to wait over an hour. The nurses handed out little boxes of candy to keep us happy. I was very happy with the staff and the doctor. I have surgery but it hasn't been scheduled yet. Thank you for your courteous manner.

I liked him. He took time explain what was happening to me. Explained options. I was young went with disk replacement. Long story short after years of more crying constantly in pain with pain meds. Went to every doctor in town nobody could figure it out and did not want to say bad things about him or MUSC . A Doctor not from Charleston but had started at an office here found that artificial disk was moving in and out spine 35 percent. Did surgery disk was in backwards took out did a fusion, I was in hospital for about a week because of complications. End result my leg still goes dead and very painful. My back still hurts and if I do go anywhere which usually don't, I walk with walker so I don't fall if my leg goes out. Pick your Doctor off of other patients. Talk to people waiting in office they usually know. Do NOT go off of them being nice you. Almost forgot the best part the last visit I went to see him him he said the pain was in my head but if it would MAKE me feel better he would… do exploratory surgery, because he didn't see in the film's what the other Doctor did. I and my family could even see the disk moving out of my spine when I bent down. Which was also doing when I walked.

I am sure this doctor is very well educated and an expert in the field but I was not pleased at all. I had severe injuries after a motorcycle accident and was brought to MUSC where they performed surgeries. Before my follow up appointment, I fell down the stairs a little. At my follow up appointment I waited 3 hours to be seen. I then saw this guy for less than 5 minutes (in fairness because I really needed to get back to my workplace) in which time I was told I could remove the neck brace after 6 weeks from the accident. No one got back to me to tell me the results or if I was alright or anything. It took me more than a week to finally get results from the XRays and only because I contacted them ruthlessly. After 6 weeks I had not heard anything about what I should be doing so I took the neck brace off and started trying to move around slowly and I spent 3 days calling to get some advice on how I should proceed and in the meantime tried to slowly resume a normal lifestyle looking… after my little girl etc. Finally after much time, the doctor called me and when I explained my situation and frustration, he yelled at me and said I had no common sense!! I have the sense to go see a different doctor... I am not sure how this guy still has a job after that performance. If I spoke to a customer like that at my place of work, I'd be fired on the spot... especially if it was a customer that had to fork our over $50,000 for services! Terrible.
