Dr. Jacob Robert Tjaden, DO

The internal medicine doctor asked Dr. Tjaden to see my father who was seeing things after his stroke. At first I thought it was weird he knelt next to my dad's bed because there were no chairs in the room. However, my dad said he felt like the other doctors were trying to control him, but not Dr. Tjaden. I think it's because he did not stand over top of him when he talked. He was knowledgeable when answering our questions and made the situation less scary.

Dr. Tjaden was my psychiatrist when I was on the inpatient mental health unit. He was friendly and answered all of my questions. He met with me and my husband and his questions too. I wish he could be my outpatient psychiatrist.

The Cambridge ER told me I had to go to St. Paul. I wanted help, but didn't want to go that far. To make it worse my roommate tried to get in bed with me and I was afraid to sleep. They should have private rooms. The kitchen screwed up my food order for the both meals I had there. At least Dr. Tjaden listened and seemed to understand and let me go.

My father was admitted to United Hospital and suffers from dementia. He was admitted to the hospital due to physical combativeness towards staff at the memory care facility at which he resides. Dr. Tjaden was the physician assigned to him. Dr. Tjaden worked for 6 weeks trying to manage my father's anger and combativeness. His "all in" attitude was a relief to my family considering the devastation that dementia and related behaviors are for the ill person's family. Over 6 weeks of visiting my father, sometimes twice a day, we became very familiar with the staff and nurses. I would like to commend the entire staff of nurses and attendants who worked with my dad and my family. One word to describe them would be "outstanding." Always calm, compassionate, caring and informative. We received numerous phone calls on my Dad's condition. Also, if we called to check, his nurse or Dr. Tjaden were quick to return our calls and bring us up-to-date on his daily status.

Dr. Tjaden cared for my mother on the geriatric psychiatry unit at United Hospital. He or the nurses were very responsive to questions. They made a very difficult experience easier. He spoke in plain language and provided options for us. I have no doubt that he truly cared about my mother and our experience with the hospital.

I was admitted to the hospital on a 72 hour hold after a fight with my mother while I was drunk. It felt like nobody listened to me or believed me until I met him. The ER doctor barely said hi to me before slapping me on a hold. They sent me to United and it felt like jail. The weekend psychiatrist didn't even look at me and spent less than 10 minutes. All the patients that didn't have Dr. Tjaden complained about their doctors. When he saw me on Monday he spent time with me and listened to me and explained everything. He call my boyfriend and mom and verified what I was saying instead of assuming I was lying. It was still a terrible experience, but I'm glad I had him as my doctor.

Dr. Tjaden took the time to listen to me. He discovered a side-effect to medication I was having that my outpatient psychiatrist shrugged off.

Is very knowledgeable

Dr. Tjaden is very knowledgably and he is the best Psychiatrist I've visited.
