Dr. Jaime Lynn Hope, MD

Three years ago my wife was diagnosed with a very rare spinal disorder. Two weeks after a 12 day hospital stay she suffered a relapse and I took her to the Beaumont ER. Dr Hope examined her and spent more time scolding her for being a smoker than she did evaluating her symptoms. She called the doctor who treated my wife during her hospital stay and told us he said to treat her for pain and send her home. The next day my wife was unable to move her legs, and spend the next 22 days in the hospital. When she was seen in the hospital by the Dr that Dr Hope called he told us that he told Dr Hope to send her home if there were no new symptoms. Dr Hope never administered any reflex or pain tests in the ER, only the smoking lecture. What my wife needed at that time was IV steroids which would have immediately stopped the swelling in her spine. Instead that swelling was allowed to continue for 24 more hours. My wife spent months in a wheel chair and has suffered permanent nerve damage.… We'll never know how much of this damage may or may not have been avoided if my wife would had been treated in the ER that day instead of lectured.

I was given a spinal tap by this Doctor-and was very nervous about having it done-but she was very calm and reassuring-and talked her way through the procedure so I knew how far along we were in the process. She is an excellent Doctor who is both smart and very courteous.

She spent a lot of time explaining what was going on and what to expect. Great bedside manner in a very busy ER.
