Dr. Jairo A. Bastidas, DMD

I was referred to Jairo Bastidas by Dr. Craig Rees from Evan Mondshines office in Forest Hills. After months of failed non invasive procedures that left necrosis on the right side of my face through Dr. Rees, he mentioned the next step would be an invasive procedure. Upon meeting Dr. Bastidas I felt very confident that he would be able to help me with my condition. We moved forward with a mandibular osteotomy, slicing down the jaw bone in hopes that he can correct the issue. After 33 days of having my mouth wired shut, losing 25 pounds, and being in pain, my mouth never fully reopened again. It currently opens 25mm, I am in pain everyday. and can't properly chew due to pain and the inability to get normal foods to fit in my mouth. We spent weeks trying to access the situation, even did another procedure to flush out the joint, only to be told, "There is nothing more I can do for you", my mouth barely opens and im in pain and im being told, there is nothing more i can do for you. I… called and spoke to a resident right before Thanksgiving 2021 , crying and begging for pain medicine as i have shocks of pain in my face that go up to my head, my face tends to burn internally on the right side whenever it feels like it, i get excruciating pain that goes from my ear down to my jaw. The winter cold has been beating me up everyday. Whenever I shiver it's like pins and needles are being stabbed throughout my entire face. I called today, 4 months later, because the weather changes has left me in so much pain its unbearable. They said they cant send me over an medicine unless i come in for a visit. The last visit i was there, Jairo Bastidas said There is nothing more i can do for you. So explain to me why i need to drive all the way to the bronx, to speak to the same man who's left me in a condition that is inhumane to anyone. This pain has ruined my life and the lives of those who are around me. I will not be returning back, the office workers and staff are very nice but no Surgeon should be allowed to have a failed procedure and then tell their patient there's nothing more I can do for you. I cry everyday because i regret ever doing this surgery at Montefiore hospital, and the pain i felt before doesn't even come close to the pain i experience now. All of this because i was in a car accident that caused me to hit the right side of my face against the door. I will be moving forward with finding a new surgeon, since there was nothing more Jairo Bastidas could do.

I was terrified about having dental surgery, and my local dental surgeon was not in network. He recommended Dr. Bastidas, a 45 minute ride away. Each of the 5 trips I made to him confirmed Dr. Basisdas' professionalism, calm manner, educational tone, and confidence. He is surrounded by a bevy of residents at Montefiore, all of whom echoed Dr. Bastidas' recommendations, reassurance, and attention to detail. The office took care of wending its way through medical insurance for me. Pre- and post-operation were carried out to my satisfaction. And it didn't hurt, after all! The only downer was one obviously disinterested front desk person.

I am sure he is a good surgeon but rude to his staff (residents in training). His resident worked on me and were excellent at minimizing my discomfort and making me comfortable at Schiff location. Advice: Be more kind to support staff.

Excellent Doctor

Dr. Jairo Bastidas has great way of communication with his patients, he has a great bedside manner to both patient and parents. Dr. Bastidas takes his time to thoroughly explain every detail of the procedure he will be performing. His young and talented staff are very understanding , knowledgeable and very personable

I had jaw surgery with him several years ago and he did an amazing job. He answered questions, had a good bedside manner, explained the procedure, and was helpful in follow-up appointments. My only complaint was that he prescribed a really weak painkiller (Tylenol 3) and for this type of procedure, he should be prescribing something stronger such as Percocet. Also, the wait can be FOREVER. I've waited up to two hours to see him. Regardless, he's an amazing surgeon.
