Dr. Jakub Andrzej Pach, MD

Dr. Jakub was extremely unprofessional and aggressive in his demeanor and tone after I had asked for clarity on my father's treatment plan. Due to miscommunication and translation error and language barriers I was confused about my father's treatment plan. What turned out to be miscommunication could have been easily addressed had he answered questions asking about clarity regarding my father's treatment. Instead, Dr. Jakub became visibly upset, using an aggressive tone, and condescending demeanor and accused me the child of the patient from having a different agenda. Only to come to find out that my brother had forgotten to update my mother and I on the treatment plan + language barriers caused confusion. Dr. Jakub was visibly angry. Instead of patiently answering my questions. Dr. Jakub accused me of having another agenda when the entire time it was miscommunication which again could have been cleared up quite easily had he taken the time to hear me out rather than interrupt me. I… do not feel that Dr. Jakub handled himself professionally. I apologized for the miscommunication as I wasn't updated and was asking for clarity. However, Dr. Jakub acted rather unprofessional when he accused me of "having a different agenda." When the entire time the issue was miscommunication. I had tried to explain to Dr. Jakub that my understanding of the situation was that my father was going into hospice, as that was the last update I had received. However, what was failed to be communicated was that I was not told that my father had refused hospice. I respect his decision. The issue is that in my attempt get clarity on what was happening I was met with unprofessionalism rather than understanding and patience. I was accused of "having a different agenda" by Dr. Jakub Pach rather than Dr. Pach taking time to recognize the very real language and communication barriers. Dr. Jakub Each failed to communicate professionally. I am sharing this experience so non-English speakers, first generation patients and family of patients, and people of color do not have to experience this. This experience has been so disheartening, unprofessional, and traumatic. This is an attempt to educate future medical staff about the very real barriers of being a person of color and working with families that are not fluent in the English language, as this experience could have been handled with more patience, professionalism, and understanding.
