Dr. James Maxwell Austin, MD

Dr. Austin has been consulting with my other doctors to help me with my health problems for several years now. He is usually available when I contact him, and if he's not available he gets back to me promptly. In my opinion, he is compassionate and empathetic. And believe me, I am a connoisseur of doctors as I have been to over 100 during the last for years.

A technically skilled surgeon who follows national cancer treatment guidelines. Unfortunately, you can't teach this old dog new tricks. He talks down to educated (likely all) patients, has a hard time relating to younger patients, prefers to tell patients how they feel rather than ask, and shows up to consultations unprepared, thus requiring that patients double-check that he has, in fact, read their chart before making treatment recommendations. He likely works best with older women who want to be told not to worry their pretty little heads about anything complicated and medical. Very frustrating for the rest of us.
