Dr. James Russell Bell, MD

Im at the stage in my disease that I am starting to need palliative care. I read the reviews and picked St. Luke's. We drove 3 hours one way only to be told by Dr. Bell he never read my Dr. reports because I live to far away & good bye. They knew how far away I lived when I made the appointment & not once did I hear they would not come here. Matter of fact I was told the opposite. They are going to Bill Medicare for doing absolutely nothing and get paid for nothing. That's why I wasn't told not to come, this Dr see's a $ and not a person sitting in front of him. His attitude towards my condition was flippant & disrespectful. Everyone else was nice but Bell needs to retire

My wife was in hospice care at home for a year and then three months in a nursing home. Dr. Bell came once a month. We were impressed. He is as good Doctor.

Dr. Bell is outstanding and took great care of my dad while he was diagnosed with cancer. While medical care can be complicated and difficult to understand, Dr. Bell took time to simplify everything and focused on the big picture and what my dad was going through. I really appreciated everything and would recommend Dr. Bell to anyone.

Dr. Bell is an excellent physician who provides Palliative Care at St. Lukes in Cedar Rapids. He seems to be well-respected by all of the other staff members and was excellent at talking with my mother. He involved all of the family in shared decision making and cared about all of the other staff. His nurses were wonderful too!

Will never recommend this doctor to anyone...had no respect for family or his patients....and definitely didn't listen to what the patient wanted or needed!! Highly dissatisfied

Dr. Bell is extremely unprofessional. I would suggest that St. Luke's reconsider his position in palliative and hospice care. He has no busy in providing medical advice to families! His bed side manner would be a zero if possible. He lacks the ability to provide accurate information to families who are making difficult decisions. I am extremely unhappy with the services received by Dr. Bell and St. Luke's Hospital/Unity Point.
