Dr. James Edward Bishop, MD

We visit recently a emergency room with my Son and we met the Dr .James , a Very good Doctor, very responsible for his job ,and very involved in the patient's problem. Thank you.Dr. James .

Very thorough, explained procedures, diagnosis and medications. Would recommend to others.

If I could give zero stars I would! This is the second time I have seen Dr. Bishop. The first time I came in with burning mouth conditions that last 24/7. He diagnosed me with anxiety and prescribed a relaxant. It didn't help but he was insistent that was the issue. I still have burning mouth and nothing changed from the drug he prescribed. I have seen several specialists since seeing Dr. Bishop who have assured me it is in no way anxiety. The next time was about 8 mths later. I came into the ER with a virus that was causing acute bronchial spasms, at the time I was having a bad coughing fit. I had an inhaler from my doctor but she had already mentioned I might need a steroid to treat it better and to come it if it got worse. When I arrived, Dr. Bishop came into the room and told me it was just anxiety. He wanted to prescribe me anti-depressants. He did run a chest X-ray once I assured him it was not anxiety but at no point did he listen to my breathing or run a blood test for… common viruses. He argued with me that it was anxiety and talked down to my husband and I; like we just didn't understand anything. I eventually asked to just be discharged. I would rather die then have Dr. Bishop ever treat me again. I did ask him why he thought I had anxiety both times that I saw him, he said he normally diagnoses anxiety. It sounds based on other reviews too that he is a little trigger happy with the diagnoses. I went to see my primary care the next day. She listened to my chest/took blood work and gave me a steroid inhaler. The new inhaler worked right away. My doctor confirmed it was a virus too. I would never allow anyone in my family to be treated by Dr. Bishop.

Dr. Bishop was able to explain to me better than the entire staff did during a week long stay in the hospital. If he had his own practice, I would be first in line to be his patient. He was very thorough and knowledgeable.

Dr. Bishop was neglectful. I told him I had a seizure ( convulsions, not remembering, urinating). He brushed it off as if I had a Panic attack, which I had no symptoms of. He sent me home with a RX for an antidepressant (even though I told him I was not stressed). Four Days later I had another seizure. It could have been prevented if he had taken the time to understand the symptoms I did and did not have, ordered the right tests, and the right meds were prescribed. I think he needs to brush up on seizures.

As Dr Bishop told me in the er today "I am just an emergency room doctor" and that is all he is. If you have a broken bone, are having a heart attack then Dr. Bishop is probably super at his job but if your medical problem is less cut and dry then Dr. Bishop's bedside manner suggests he would rather be on his way. He listens but does not hear. The difference between a good doctor and a great one is the one who takes time to actively listen and does not write you off as a statistic.
