Dr. James Bowers, DO

I am extremely disappointed with the care I received from Dr. Bowers. From the beginning, I was upfront about not having insurance, yet I was still recommended a CPAP machine without being informed of any limitations or requirements about where to purchase it. Methodist scheduled the appointment with the respiratory therapist, and I purchased the CPAP machine outright, expecting support with my treatment. At my follow-up appointment, where I came for help with ongoing issues using the machine, Dr. Bowers was completely dismissive. He shrugged his shoulders and told me there was nothing he could do because I did not buy the CPAP machine through their respiratory therapist. When I asked why this critical detail wasn’t communicated beforehand—especially knowing I was uninsured—he refused to answer the question. His demeanor came off as indifferent, even prejudiced, as if my lack of insurance made me undeserving of basic care or consideration. The entire experience was frustrating and… disheartening. It felt like I was led through a process that was never intended to actually support me. I left the appointment with no answers, no help, and a strong sense that patients without insurance are treated as second-class citizens in this system. I would not recommend Dr. Bowers based on my experience.

More like a warden than a health care provider. Is controlling and egotistical. You will regret your condition.

I would never recommend Dr. Bowers to anyone. I’m not sure how he typically treats his patients, but this was my experience. I had been having breathing issues for a year and a half. After seeing four different doctors, my primary doctor recommended this pulmonologist specialist. My appointment day came (keep in mind I scheduled this appointment about a month and a half in advance) and I was extremely hopeful to talk about my issues and get answers. I thought this doctor should definitely have some insight on my issues. I go in first thing in the morning, take a breathing test, and wait 20-30 more minutes to see Dr. Bowers. After introducing himself, the first thing he says to me is “so...why are you at a pulmonologist office?” I was extremely caught off guard, thinking he would have some idea (even the slightest bit) as to why I made this appt (especially after the recommendation from my doctor). He probably said less than 100 words to me, and then told me how I could leave.
