Considered my "go to doc" for many items. Helped arrange a neurosurgeon for me when needed and surgeon had extremely long wait list. He was at Physician Pain Center on St. Joseph Hospital Campus. Have bee away from AYL for about one year for special rehab of paralyzed leg. Being released to return to ATL in about 4 weeks and need to reconnect.

I am shocked at the previous posts. I felt the responsibility to state that Dr. Carlson has ALWAYS explained my treatment plans and suggested alternative treatments when needed. Pain management is an incredibly difficult field. Ultimately I have to take accountability for my treatment.I have chronic pain with nerve damage and just had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. As we adjust the stimulator for my pain level, Dr. Carlson has communicated very effectively with the Boston Scientific Rep.. This has been a hurdle, but I am confident that I am headed in the right direction.I have been seeing Dr. Carlson for several years now. I am nurse, and I am truly appreciative of Dr. Carlson and his support.

A nurse with Carlson's staff refused to pass on the message of the amount of pain I was in when returning to a full time position. She came back at me saying I was seeking percocets, which I regularly denied because my request was for any possible changes in my regiment that could help out with the pain. Doctor Carlson implied I was a liar, would not hear me out, and refused to tell me about two treatments that ended up working which are not narcotics. Plus, the damage he did to my medical record has been a weight on my life, leading to no longer being able to get a doctor to trust me when it comes to narcotics. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS DOCTOR!

He was very condescending about pain medications for our son's spinal nerve damage (verified). Because of his age(25) he seem to feel that any pain was a fabrication.He did not offer any medical alternatives, such as nerve blocks, etc. Very disappointing.
