Dr. James Craig Charles, MD

I've been seeing Dr. Charles at Affinity (formerly Catawba Care) since I moved to Rock Hill from Orlando, FL about 9 years ago. I mostly only see him for routine monitoring of my HIV... when I moved here several years ago, I was much sicker than I am now, just recouperating from a near-death bout of PML. He has stayed along with me through some dramatic changes from chronically ill, actively very sick AIDS patient to now, when I'm a healthy, fully functioning, working, person living with HIV. I really like getting my care through a community health center like Affinity, and using Dr. Charles (the medical director there)... he is not pressured to create unnecessary billings and rush to see enough patients to meet a "quota" for the day in order to make a profit, so he takes as much time with me as necessary, and is truly more concerned with outcomes than billable procedures. I compare him to my infectious disease doc in Orlando, Florida, who arrogantly boasts his credentials and… yet is not nearly as entirely competent, thorough, pleasant, and good-natured doctor. I definitely wouldn't change.
