Dr. James Yu-Ting Chen, MD

Dr. Chen is uncaring, insensitive and rude. Just as I was about to enter my surgery, he asked about any symptoms I had EVER had. I told him I had occasional pressure in my chest but that it was better now and that I was diagnosed with anxiety, given medicine and it worked. He then just put of the blue assumed I would likely have a heart attack if I had anesthesia which was completely ridiculous. He was told by myself and my real doctor/surgeon that I just had a previous surgery with zero complications one month prior. He would not listen to the facts and mentioned he was worried about his license. It was a late afternoon Surgery and I believe he just wanted to leave and had other plans. He’s so incompetent that he canceled my surgery at the very last minute after I waited for 3 hours being prepped for surgery and was about to be rolled into the operating room. I’m in constant pain and really needed this surgery but he did not care at all. No amount of explanation could make this man… take in or understand any new information. He is extremely cold, uncaring, rigid and rude. Please stay away from him if you want a good medical outcome and desperately need your surgery. He does not have your best interest in mind and will not listen to any information given to him. He thinks he knows it all and just has to “be right” despite solid evidence to the contrary. Now I will have to live in constant pain for months until I can find a new doctor and a new hospital that actually cares about their patients. He should definitely not be practicing medicine. He is the worst doctor I have ever encountered and I’ve had several surgeries over the years without any complications. If he walks in your Pre-op room, please ask for another doctor who will work with you not against you for his own selfish ego.

Even seeing this doctor's photo online 10 years later makes my blood boil. When I told him I had read an article about using melatonin to reduce the amount of anesthesia needed, he replied, "Where'd you read that? In Cosmopolitan?" Then he proceeded to knock me out even tho I had asked to be only slightly sedated. When I handed him a printout of the article at the end of the procedure (it was out of reach when we first talked), he was stunned to see that it was actually from a medical journal. I have asked NEVER to have this person treat me again.

From the beginning he made me feel comfortable. When the medicine started to kick in I got a bad nervous feeling and he sat with me and talked to me till I fell asleep. To sum things up he was the best anesthesiologist I've ever delt with. We need more like him.
