Dr. James Mark Estes, MD

Dr. Estes has saved my life three times. What I want you to know how professional, and never has he let me leave his office with out making sure I have no questions and feeling as if my concerns were answered. When I'm having an office visit I feel as though I'm made to feel like I'm his only patient. Thank you to the whole family from scheduling to the team who care for me until I see the best vascular surgeon.

Dr. Estes operated on me in two different occasions. Both were extremely dangerous. The last one he performed was a bi-lateral femoral bypass from my right leg, under my stomach and into my right leg. Tremendous job and I could walk, run, play tennis and golf without pain. Furthermore, when I was 20 years old, Dr. Alan Callow saved my left leg and possible my life. This was in 1967. My iliac artery in my left leg was totally occulted. Dr. Callow performed by pass surgery, with 2 different things: first the greater saphenous vein from my right leg was harvested and put in my left leg because the iliac had to be cut out. Then he inserted a Dacron tube as another by pass. The Dacron tube immediately. Then the saphenous vein opened up. I could do anything. In fact, I was able to play semi-pro basketball and was able to teach, full time, from 1970 to 2010. I have had a GREAT LIFE. Dr. Estes was trained by Dr. Callow. They are the BEST IN THE WORLD!

My spouse works at the same hospital as Dr. Estes and he came highly recommended from colleagues to perform my surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. I found him to be a very talented and nice surgeon(nicer than most surgeons and not arrogant). I would recommend him to family and friends.

I went in with my mother and I could not believe the way he spoke with her. I refused to bring her back for treatment.

First stent procedure went well, until 10 days later I developed a blood clot. Rushed into emergency, (another Dr.re-did the stents). Have never been able to walk more than 30 ft without experiencing pain (the original pain!) Have tried for 3 years to get an explanation of what is wrong with my legs - I went in NOT accusing any wrongdoing - just can you help me? His response was - you're still smoking, you have to take charge and stop smoking - I don't have time for this and left the exam room. I was stunned and hurt - I left in tears AND pain. His intern showed more compassion than Dr. Estes. I have never gone back and NEVER will. He was positively heartless!

My husband and I were concerned about a fully blocked artery and a 60% blockage on the opposite side of his neck. Dr. Estes came in, touched my husband's wrist, ankles etc. got up abruptly and said. "I can't do anything for you!" Shocked, I stammered "Well what will happen 'down the road?'" Dr. Estes said, "He'll have a shock." and left the room.We will never go back to him again.
