Dr. James Christopher Farmer, MD

Probably the most emotionally distant doctor I've met with. He seemed unaware of or unconcerned with the effect his demeanor, body language and tone had on the me as the patient. Unable to relate on an interpersonal level. Maybe he was exhausted, in pain, or had a bad day** -- but I would be careful before investing a half day to consult with him, only to spend five minutes listening to him sound annoyed. Would also ask him to confirm he's the right doctor to see / interested in your case before you travel to see him -- maybe by asking him to speak with the referring doctor at length and/or look at your radiology images in advance. ** Actually..after writing this, I'm seeing that a significant number of other people have had similar experiences

This doctor gave me a three level fusion * I was supposed to have a two level. He never visits the patients after surgery. He put the plate in crooked and his boss Shapiro is a ihoehfifbiefig. When you are under anesthesia they let beginners, student doctors take over. This hospital and this doctor should be avoided. Go to a DC.

I recently had spinal surgery performed by Dr. James Farmer. Not only was my surgery successful but, from the moment I met him I knew I would be in excellent hands. He is truly a caring doctor with the best bedside manner which is hard to find with so many doctors. I never felt rushed when speaking with him both in the hospital and during my post-op visit. Bottom line, I highly recommend Dr.Farmer as an excellent orthopedic surgeon. Joan

This past week I had spinal surgery performed by Dr James Farmer. From the moment I met him I could tell he had a real concern for my well being. Unlike other surgeons I met he took his time explaining the procedure he felt would be best to correct my back problem and also listened to all of my questions and concerns without feeling the least bit rushed. Since my surgery he has come by my hospital room daily to check on my recovery process. I was unable to walk more than a few steps without pain until Dr Farmer performed a laminectomy, now I am able to walk without pain. He is easy to talk to and visited me in the hospital each day. Highly recommend.

Excellent professional Dr,had L5-S1 fusion done.No complications or issues.Very personable and easy to talk to.

Dr. Farmer was disinterested and dismissive during my evaluation. He spent exactly 5 minutes with me after his resident did the evaluation. I spent more time filling out paperwork online than the entire process took. His office states that he takes Medicare but if you are of Medicare age it appears that you’re not worth the effort. I guess Medicare doesn’t pay enough. Thank goodness I found another fine doctor who disagreed with Dr. Farmer’s assessment.

I recently had a fusion this past January by Dr. Farmer at the Hospital of Special Surgery in which post operation something went horribly wrong. When I went back to Dr. Farmer he said he would fix me and quickly. After two MRI’s and a myligram and a follow up visit to discuss the tests Dr. Farmer, sent me first to a pysitrist Dr. Geiger for a spinal epidural that did nothing but cause excruciating pain. While sitting trying to recover from the pain he caused Dr. Geiger walk into the recovery area to see how I was doing following the pain he inflicted. While trying to walk following the epidural Dr. Geiger told me that Dr. Farmer called him to tell me there would be NO further surgery. Dr. Farmer, did not have the consideration or the courtesy to communicate with me for a follow up appointment. Almost a year later I’m in more pain and can barely walk for any distance or disend stairs then prior to surgery. Let me leave you with this piece of advise. Make sure your surgeon will stand… by you before and after your surgery because no other spinal surgeon wants to treat your surgeons failure.
