Dr. James Partrick Fouts, MD

Came in with sudden heart palpitations that several friends told me I should go to the ER right away since I am only 41 years old. The wait time at Deaconess Gateway is awful. Once I finally was seen, of course my palpitations had decreased thanks to the three hour wait. I found Dr. Fouts to be extremely rude and dismissive. He did not even want to run any test. Said it looks like was nothing to be worried about. Then I came on here to read the reviews. Makes sense why a lot of people don’t have good things to say about him. He is as arrogant and uncaring as all the reviews have said.

I saw Dr. Fouts twice (back to back Friday/Sat nights) with a clogged post-surgical catheter. He was in the room quickly and had the problem resolved quickly. VERY caring and personable. OUTSTANDING ER service.

This ER doctor at Deaconess Gateway is a joke! I went to ER with a stroke level blood pressure. This doctor, James Fouts, said I came in there with an excruciating headache, which was a fabricated lie on his end. Therefore, he dismissed me without being concerned at all with what I actually came in there for. I ended up riding on an ambulance to St. Vincent. The ER doctor at St. Vincent took me seriously as well as a cardiologist. They had me stay at the hospital until my blood pressure was stabilized. I would probably be dead by now if I didn’t go to St. Vincent. I had neighbor who once worked at Deaconess Gateway as a nurse (now retired) and she even said the doctors at Gateway don’t care about anyone. Please do yourself a favor and go to St. Vincent. If Gateway doesn’t care about babies, you know they don’t care about you.

I thought he was great! I actually came in for a real life threatening emergency, which is what the EMERGENCY room is for!!!! He diagnosed the problem, admitted me, and saved my life. He did this despite the fact that there were tons of patients in the emergency room that night.

I brought my 14-month-old to ER since he had a pimple-like spot inside of his belly button that had clumpy discharge. I was concerned that it was a spider bite and told Dr. James P Fouts this. In the past, I've been bitten by a brown recluse, so I know what one looks like. His answer? He didn't know how to go about testing for a spider bite and wouldn't know what kind of spider it was if he was able to. His solution to the problem w was to prescribe my son Keflex without taking a culture and he never came back after that. I had to pressure the nurse into to this. It has been about a week and I still haven't heard back from the hospital about the results. I was told I'd hear back from them within 48 - 72 hours. The antibiotics didn't clear up the spot either since it still appears to be infected. This doctor shouldn't be working in the ER or be a doctor for that matter.

I brought my Dad to ER w/breathing issues & upper abdominal pain. After chest X-ray, blood test & urine test only, Dr Fouts said he found nothing but a few liver tests were off. He was ready to send my Dad home. I knew how sick my Dad was & expressed my fear. The Dr placed my Dad in a 24 hr "observation" room at which time he was sent home w/no further testing. I took my Dad home & had to bring him back the same day on an emergent bases after phoning his Dr. I've had two negative/negligent experiences w/Dr Fouts in the past year. My fear is Dr Fouts is sending very ill patients home. My Dad was diagnosed w/a serious & chronic bacterial infection in his stomach & had his gallbladder removed. I had to fight for his care. I will never trust Dr Fouts for myself or my loved ones ever again.
